Cherries Community Fund - AFC Bournemouth

Above and Beyond receive Cherries Community Fund Donation

Head of Community Steve Cuss visited the Above and Beyond Trust, who were recipients of the Cherries Community Fund grant award.

The project supports veterans, by meeting twice weekly for a social event, providing support services, advice, guidance, training and wellbeing.

Based at Southbourne Beach, the project meet for a bacon sandwich and coffee, before some opt for a sea swim, providing opportunities for the group to socialise and keep fit.

Speaking to the club after his visit, Steve Cuss said, “It was an honour to visit the Above and Beyond Trust and see first-hand the outstanding support network available to veterans.”

The Cherries Community Fund panel, meet quarterly, with the next meeting taking place in May 2025, applications received by the end of April would be reviewed at this panel. Any applications received after this will be reviewed in later panel meetings.

This Easter holiday, 24 girls aged 12-16 years old from the Premier League Kicks sessions were invited to participate in the Premier League Changemakers programme.

Taking place at Vitality Stadium, the group of girls participated in indoor theory sessions, coupled with practical activities on the Stadium 3G pitches.

Workshop activities looked at topics including Emotions and Feelings, Leadership and Life Skills.

With the practical sessions on the 3G pitches linking to this, as the girls demonstrated their leadership skills through delivering their own football activities.

To complete their evening, the girls were also shown around the Premier League facilities at Vitality Stadium, taking a look inside the changing rooms, and heading out pitch side.

From their participation in the PL Changemakers programme, the girls will now look to gain further leadership experience, along with taking part in volunteering sessions.

“Engaging these young girls in sessions which are designed to empower them is important and seeing them put their skills into action as they volunteer back into the community is fantastic.”
