Exclusive: Sheffield Wednesday forward Mallik Wilks wanted by three clubs
Sheffield Wednesday forward Mallik Wilks is a target for a number of overseas clubs on a free transfer this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Konyaspor, Levski Sofia and Aris Limassol are among the sides weighing up a swoop for the ex-Leeds man.
Wilks, 26, who has spent this season on loan at Rotherham, is out of contract at Sheffield Wednesday this summer – and his availability as a free agent has alerted a number of clubs at home and abroad.
Turkish side Konyaspor, Bulgarian outfit Levski Sofia and Cypriot club Aris are all weighing up moves for Wilks on a free transfer.
Wilks set to leave Hillsborough on free transfer
He has played 40 times across all competitions for Rotherham in the 2024-25 campaign after joining the Millers last August.
Wilks has netted seven goals and contributed three assists in those outings with Steve Evans’ side sitting mid-table in League One.
The 26-year-old has also amassed experience in the second, third and fourth tiers with the likes of Hull City, Doncaster Rovers, Wednesday and Accrington Stanley – scoring 62 goals in 275 total club games.
He can play as a central striker, on both flanks and in attacking midfield – and has filled each of those roles for loan club Rotherham this term.
Sheffield Wednesday face summer exodus
Wilks is out of contract this summer, alongside 10 members of Sheffield Wednesday‘s current first-team squad – including captain Barry Bannan.
The future of manager Danny Rohl is also under severe doubt amid interest from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig and Southampton.
Wednesday sit 14th in the Championship this term and are virtually safe from relegation to League One.
Crystal Palace boss ‘flapping his gums’ as new controversy emerges
Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor is reportedly looking to increase his stake at the club and take full control at Selhurst Park.
It has been reported that he will look to buy out Josh Harris and David Blitzer with NFL owner Woody Johnson – but Eagles fans may be concerned about the steady stream of controversy which seems to trail in the US businessman’s wake.
In a recent development, The Telegraph has reported (11 April) that Textor is being sued for more than £6 million at the High Court by Bruno Lage after Palace appointed Oliver Glasner as manager.
Both men apparently signed a contract that stated Textor would use his connections to get ex-Wolves boss Lage appointed at Crystal Palace or Lyon last year – but neither job materialised before the agreement expired.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed what he expects to happen next.
Textor dispute to be settled ‘out of court’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he expects the dispute to be resolved quickly and outside the courtroom.
Textor has caused controversy during his time at Lyon over their financial concerns and high-profile clashes with Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Textor likes to flap his gums, and he seems to get himself embroiled in some interesting situations.
“This situation with Lage is something I’ve never seen before.
“What made me think twice about this is that Textor and Lage had gone ahead and agreed wage levels.
“There was also a clause which said if he didn’t go to the clubs Textor owned, he would have to pay Textor the money.
“My belief is that despite all the bluster and anger in the media, we are going to see this settled out of court pretty quickly.”

Glasner preparing for Crystal Palace contract talks
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed last week (10 April) that Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is happy at Selhurst Park amid links with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
It is believed the Austrian is preparing for talks over a new contract – with his current deal only set to run until June 2026.
Sources say Glasner is content at Crystal Palace after transforming their form from the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign.
