Insistence player will “become a sensation” at Tottenham – Spurs perfect for him
Xavi Simons is “going to become a sensation” at Tottenham Hotspur, once he’s fully up and running in a few weeks’ time.
That’s according to journalist Süleyman Öztürk at Voetbal International, who believes that Tottenham are perfectly set up to help the Dutchman shine.
Simons was a late addition for Tottenham in the summer transfer window, arriving at the end of August in a €65m deal from RB Leipzig.
The Dutchman had made it clear that he wanted to leave the German side this summer, despite them paying €50m to sign him permanently from Paris Saint Germain in the January transfer window.
He wanted to make the step up and was looking to move to the Premier League, with Chelsea initially pushing to secure his signature. He instead ended up at Tottenham, who moved quickly to get a deal done after losing James Maddison through injury.
Manager Thomas Frank has quickly thrown the Dutchman into his starting 11 too, although as more of a left-winger than a central number ten to begin with.
that’s where he plays now, and you can see that when he gets the ball, there’s a shift in his mind and he moves on, for example, to Richarlison. There’s a lot of creativity there, and I think that once that comes out in a few weeks, he’s going to be a sensation at Tottenham.
“He should enjoy that, because it means he’s taking the next step. And he has a number of players at Tottenham with whom he can combine well.
“I think he really has a great environment now with Tottenham. A team where you don’t have to finish first or second but can finish third or fourth. And a manager who is very human.
“And that’s a combination. As a coach, you sometimes have to be able to deal with that. And I think he’s a coach who can do that well, so I think he’s really in the right place. And that Xaver Simons will make rapid progress.
“But the Premier League is another level altogether, and I think he’ll quickly make that team his own and then think, wow, that’s nice at that age.”
