Former Everton player has just rejected the chance to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy at Leicester City
Leicester City confirmed their relegation to the Championship earlier this month.
The Foxes have been on a dire run of form under Ruud van Nistelrooy, who replaced Steve Cooper at the end of November.
Leicester have been cut 18 points adrift from safety, with David Moyes’ men pulling well clear of the drop zone.
Position | Team | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | For | Against | Diff | Points |
15 | 34 | 8 | 14 | 12 | 34 | 41 | -7 | 38 | |
16 | 34 | 11 | 4 | 19 | 62 | 56 | 6 | 37 | |
17 | 34 | 9 | 9 | 16 | 39 | 58 | -19 | 36 | |
18 | 34 | 4 | 9 | 21 | 33 | 74 | -41 | 21 | |
19 | 34 | 4 | 6 | 24 | 27 | 76 | -49 | 18 | |
20 | 34 | 2 | 5 | 27 | 25 | 80 | -55 | 11 |
That’s unsurprisingly piled the pressure on Van Nistelrooy, who is expected to leave the King Power Stadium before the start of next season.
And now, it’s just emerged that a former Everton player has rejected the chance to replace the Dutchman in the dugout.

Former Everton player Lee Carsley snubs Leicester City job
Lee Carsley, who played under David Moyes at Everton, is the current England under-21s manager, having had a short spell as the first-team boss following Gareth Southgate’s departure.
Carsley’s stock rose dramatically during the summer of 2023, when his 21s side won the European Championships, beating Spain 1-0 in the final.
His modern possesion-based approach has alerted a number of clubs in the Premier League and Championship.
Everton were even eyeing Carsley to replace Sean Dyche at one stage and there was talk of him joining Moyes’ backroom staff, too.
Leicester have Carsley on their shortlist ahead of the Championship campaign but now, according to Alan Nixon, he is set to snub the job.
Nixon reports that the 51-year-old is not interested in working in the Championship, so that rules out that appointment for the Foxes.
Carsley will wait for Premier League vacancy
Clearly, Carsley is happy to wait for a Premier League vacant to emerge before leaving his role with the FA.
Wolves considered hiring Carsley in 2023, so their hierarchy are clearly admirers, though, Vitor Pereira seems settled in the West Midlands.
His former club Sheffield United could emerge as a possible destination if they manage to achieve promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
There are options, but as it stands, a top-flight position looks hard to come by for Carsley.
Everton in pole position to sign former Chelsea star who’s one of the best dribblers in Europe
Everton are set for a transformative summer transfer window.
The Friedkin Group will back David Moyes with a healthy budget, as PSR restrictions will finally be lifted once the financial year ends.
Everton’s new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium is expected to bank the club an extra £40m per season in revenue, so they’ll be much bigger spenders in the market over the coming years.
The Friedkin Group want to return the Toffees to Europe and there is some chatter about it coming as early as next season.
James Garner reckons a top 10 finish should be the initial aim, though, there is plenty of reason to aim beyond that.
Anyhow, it’s vital they get their summer recruitment bang on and with that said, it’s just emerged that they’re frontrunners to sign a former Chelsea star.

Everton in pole position to sign Tariq Lamptey
Everton are expected to be in the market for a right-back this summer.
Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young are both out of contract at the end of the season and look set to depart.
Nathan Patterson hasn’t won over Moyes and Jake O’Brien’s future, despite playing well at full-back, remains in the heart of defence.
With that said, Everton are showing a serious interest in former Chelsea and current Brighton star Tariq Lamptey, according to Africa Foot.
The outlet have named the Toffees as ‘favourites’ to land Lamptey’s signature, with Ajax also in the picture.
The Ghana international is set to become a free agent upon the expiry of his contract in June.
Lamptey statistically one of the best dribblers in Europe
Lamptey has been plagued by injuries in recent years, but when fit, there are few better full-backs at attacking the final third.
According to FBref, the 24-year-old sits in the top eight per cent for progressive carries compared to his positional peers in Europe, evincing his exceptional dribbling ability.
Further, Lamptey ranks in the top 14 per cent for assists, so quite clearly he’d be a totally unique profile to Everton’s current options at right-back.
Signing the Brighton man would certainly be a smart bit of business, however, they will have to fend off competition from Ajax, who are thought to be edging ahead in the race.
