Club chief warns Derby County and rivals how much it will cost to consider star striker transfer

Latest Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you what is being said about a Northern Ireland international who is attracting attention

Ross County chairman Roy MacGregor has told clubs wanting to sign Ronan Hale it will take at least an offer of at least £1m before they consider the striker’s departure.

Derby County and a host of other Championship clubs have been linked with the Northern Ireland striker who scored 17 goals in the Scottish Premier League last season.

But despite that impressive tally, he was unable to prevent County from being relegated putting a number of clubs on notice amid speculation over Hale’s future.

The striker has offered no guarantees that he will still be playing football north of the border next season which is only likely to spark further speculation.

But Macgregor warned that Hale (26) or any other of the Staggies’ stars would not be leaving on the cheap.

“We invested in Ronan as a replacement for Simon Murray, and if you were to tell me that he would end up with 17 goals in his first season in the Premiership, I would have bitten both of your hands off.

“Getting 17 goals in a team that was struggling to score was huge. He’s just had a cap for Northern Ireland, so that raises his profile, but he’s on a long-term contract to be a Ross County player.

“We encourage players wanting to improve, but he is under contract and he will be reporting for pre-season training as part of the group that is going to try and win the Championship.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if there is interest in more of our players, but the way that we do our business is that these players are under contract with us, and we look after our players.

“If we have invested in players, they are assets to the football club and there are no clauses in their contracts.

“Players won’t get picked off. Take Simon Murray for example, we had a really good relationship with him, and he was under contract so we could have made life difficult for him, but we accepted that his personal life was more important than him scoring goals for us.

“We worked a deal with a number of clubs, and we got the best deal, and the money that we got bought Akil Wright, Ronan Hale and Noah Chilvers. That’s the way we trade.

“Nobody will get pinched. If someone comes in and offers us £1 million for Ronan Hale, we’ll have to consider it, but they will have to push the boat.”

Lincoln sign centre-back Bradley after Derby exit

Lincoln City have signed Sonny Bradley on a two-year deal after the centre-back was released by Championship club Derby County at the end of the season.

Bradley last featured for the Rams in January, with the 33-year-old seeing out the final months of the season – and his Derby contract – on loan with Wycombe Wanderers in League One.

He made 41 of his 50 appearances for Derby in his first season at Pride Park in 2023-24, helping them win promotion back to the Championship after two seasons in the third tier.

Lincoln will be the ninth club that Bradley has featured for in a 15-year professional career that started with Hull City and has also included stints at Luton Town, Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle.

Bradley will be reunited with former Luton and Rams team-mate James Collins, the striker who spearhead Derby’s promotion from League One 12 months ago, as well as assistant coach Chris Cohen, who he previously worked with at the Hatters.

He says both played a part in convincing him to make the move.

“It was straightforward decision after speaking to people I already know at the club,” Bradley told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

“A couple of quick conversations with James Collins, Chris Cohen and a the manager as well, and I was happy and in for a medical.

“When I do follow James about, it only brings success. It did at Luton and did at Derby so hopefully we can do the same here.

“I’m just looking forward to getting started now.”

Bradley is the first summer addition made by Lincoln, with his arrival coming a day after 17-year-old winger Zane Okoro signed his first professional deal with the club.
