Newcastle make contact for €50m signing, Tottenham in picture – Player keen on CL club
That’s according to Voetbal International, who cover Newcastle and Tottenham interest, and the centre-back’s situation at Brighton.
The 25-year-old left NAC Breda for Brighton in 2020 but waited until the 2023/24 season to be a regular. His development and performances for Brighton helped him make debut for the Netherlands last September.
Paul van Hecke has two years left on his contract and it’s claimed Brighton want to extend his contract to make him one of their top earners.
The defender has no plans of signing an extension as his desire is to join a Champions League club. The outlet makes it clear he won’t force a move away from The Amex in this window.
Newcastle and Tottenham have qualified for the Champions League, and both are alerted by his situation at Brighton.
VI explains the Magpies made contact this week to ask about the Dutchman, while the Europa League winners are also tracking him.
According to the report, Paul van Hecke’s asking price is said to around €50m. It needs to be seen whether that’s enough to convince Brighton.
Sunderland Battle Leeds for Striker Compared to Barcelona Icon Luis Suarez
Sunderland are leading the race to sign Chelsea striker Marc Guiu on loan, with clubs like RB Leipzig and Leeds United interested.
According to Sport reports, the 19-year-old Spanish forward is “hours away from deciding his future”, and the Stadium of Light appears to be his most likely destination.
The mentioned outlet also names RB Leipzig as an interested club, due to the almost certain departure of Benjamin Sesko (22) to Manchester United or Newcastle.
Sport also notes that once Guiu decides his destination, they will attempt to reach an agreement with Chelsea, a club that would prefer to let their player leave on a simple loan deal, to continue monitoring his progress.
According to TBR Football, Leeds United and Burnley are also interested in the Catalan player.
Sunderland battle Leeds United and RB Leipzig for Marc Guiu
“The Catalan forward, facing the ‘overbooking’ in Enzo Maresca’s attacking line, will look to find an exit in this market to continue getting minutes,” Sport began explaining about the player’s situation.
“Two teams are emerging as his most likely destinations: Sunderland and Leipzig,” they added.
Although the Spanish outlet also mentions AS Roma and Real Sociedad as clubs interested in Guiu, they assure that, for now, Sunderland are the club leading the race.
When Joe Cole compared Marc Guiu to Barcelona icon Luis Suarez
Guiu’s talent is undeniable, and it’s understandable that so many clubs are interested in him.
In fact, Joe Cole once stated that the Catalan had a style very similar to Luis Suarez, the veteran Uruguayan striker.
Last December, Chelsea defeated Astana 3-1 in the UEFA Conference League, with two goals from Guiu.
At halftime, Cole declared (via BBC Sport): “Marc Guiu must have watched Luis Suarez as a young man at Barcelona.”
“He was a thorn in the side throughout for Astana in that first half. He was direct, and the first goal was exquisite from the young man,” Cole added.
Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min has been linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window.
The 31-year-old is no longer an indispensable asset for the north London club, and he could be sold in the coming weeks.
Tottenham exit draws close
According to a report from CaughtOffside, MLS side LAFC is keen on securing his signature. The report claims that talks with Tottenham have accelerated in recent days, and the transfer is now entering a critical phase. LAFC are now closing in on the South Korean International, and Tottenham want €25 million for him. The fee could prove to be a bargain.
He has been an exceptional servant for Tottenham over the years, but he is entering the twilight stage of his career. This could be the right time for the Premier League to cash in on him and bring in a younger alternative.
The 31-year-old could still be a very useful acquisition for most teams, and he would be a coup for LAFC. Apart from his world-class quality, the commercial appeal of his transfer could be hugely beneficial for the club.
Son has proven himself to be a top-class player over the years, and this could be the right time for him to move on and try out a new challenge.
Even though he was not at his best for Tottenham last season, he scored 11 goals and produced 12 assists. There is no doubt that he has the quality to make a defining impact in the MLS.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can replace him properly. They have already signed Mohammed Kudus, but they need another dynamic attacker if the South Korean International leaves the club.
It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can wrap up the move quickly.
