Newcastle United have reportedly made an offer to Barcelona for Ferran Torres to try and bring the Spanish attacker back to the Premier League.

Spanish outlet Fichajes.net reports that the Magpies and Tottenham Hotspur have both tabled bids for the Spaniard, worth £43.3m (€50m). His future was cast into doubt when Marcus Rashford arrived on loan from Manchester United earlier this summer.

Torres has two years left on his contract with the Catalans and has been serving as backup to Robert Lewandowski while offering a rotational option out wide. He made a name for himself in the Premier League with Manchester City before moving to Camp Nou in January 2022.

Newcastle’s offer for Torres has fallen on deaf ears, with Barca prepared to keep the 25-year-old, and the player desires to stay put. The Spanish giants’ president Joan Laporta and director Deco are said to have “protected” the Spain international amid speculation over his future.

Torres, who sits on £210,000 per week (per Capology) is even open to extending his contract and committing his long-term future to the club and Hansi Flick’s project. He’s the latest forward that the Magpies have tried signing amid a frustrating transfer window.

Alexander Isak is still training alone after pushing to leave the Tyneside giants and join Liverpool. But Howe has been clear that a suitable replacement must arrive for the Swede to get his wish and their failure to sign Benjamin Sesko may lead to him remaining at St James’ Park before the window closes on September 1.

There’s no word on whether Torres was considered an Isak replacement. But he boasts an impressive goalscoring resume and was Europe’s most prolific forward by April 2025, scoring a goal every 79.1 minutes.

Just as impressively, the Spain international managed 10 goals and six assists in 27 La Liga games last season, while playing second fiddle to Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal. He also has Premier League experience, albeit at the start of his career with Pep Guardiola’s City.

Torres made 28 appearances and registered nine goals and three assists, only leaving the Etihad because he desired a return to his homeland. Guardiola said back when his switch to Barca took place in 2022:

“I cannot push the players or convince the player if his mind is elsewhere. It makes no sense.”

Newcastle have Yoane Wissa in their sights as they look to finally get at least one attacking signing over the line. GIVEMESPORT sources und6erstand that Wissa has informed Brentford manager Keith Andrews that he wants to leave and join Howe’s side.

The Magpies start the new Premier League season against Aston Villa on Saturday (August 16) but Isak will likely sit that game out as things stand. But they are likely to struggle to lure Torres away from Camp Nou if they wish to make the Spaniard his replacement.
