Kobbie Mainoo: Spurs eye surprise move as Man United make bold decision

Manchester United are prepared to listen to offers for Kobbie Mainoo, who has attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Mainoo was a notable absence from Ruben Amorim’s starting lineup in the Premier League opener, especially as the academy midfielder enjoyed an encouraging pre-season.

Amorim also overlooked Mainoo in the second half, as he replaced Casemiro with Manuel Ugarte with the hosts trailing 1-0 against Arsenal.

Manchester United could sell Kobbie Mainoo

According to Givemesport, United are willing to “sacrifice” Mainoo to offset their “huge summer outlay.”

United are interested in signing a defensive midfielder this summer. However, they have splurged £200m on revamping their frontline.

The 20-year-old midfielder is “up for grabs at £60m” as the club’s hierarchy try to avoid potential PSR issues. United are supposedly looking to get rid of Alejandro Garnacho for the same reason.

Spurs set their sights on Mainoo

It is further claimed that Spurs are “waiting to take the bait.” The England international has emerged as a potential transfer target for the North Londoners in the final days of the transfer window.

James Maddison recently suffered a potential season-ending injury. As such, Thomas Frank is keen to sign a new attacking midfielder.

Spurs have failed in their pursuits of Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze. The former has renewed his contract at Nottingham Forest and the latter has agreed to move to North London, but to join Arsenal.

Mainoo is not a like-for-like replacement for Maddison, but the United midfield gem fits their “brief for a young, dynamic midfielder.”

Interestingly, Amorim frequently used Mainoo in the advanced position behind the striker last campaign, as the United head coach had some worries about his defending. Still, the youngster impressed with his close control and link-up ability in the final third.

As such, it is difficult to see Ineos giving up on him so quickly and selling him, especially to their Premier League rivals. It is best to take the claim with a pinch of salt.

Tottenham fans will be excited by what Brennan Johnson just said about Richarlison

Brennan Johnson has revealed that he and his Tottenham teammates can see that Richarlison is hungry to make his mark this season.

Leading into the summer transfer window, it is fair to say that most Spurs fans would have been happy to see the back of Richarlison, with many feeling it is a position which the Lilywhites can upgrade on.

However, the Brazilian has shown against Paris Saint-Germain and Burnley just what an asset he can be when he his fit and firing.

In fact, after his brace against the Clarets, Richarlison has scored 13 goals in his last 16 league starts for Tottenham, including nine in his last nine starts, which is clear evidence that he knows where the back of the net is.

Brennan Johnson can see the hunger in Richarlison’s eyes at Tottenham

Speaking to the Brazilian media, Richarlison admitted last week that he has had a proper pre-season this summer for the first time in many years.

The striker certainly looks fitter and sharper than he has looked for a while in a Tottenham shirt, and Johnson has now revealed the former Everton man is hungry to showcase his quality this season.

Speaking after Richarlison’s brace against the Clarets, the Tottenham winger told the club’s official website: “I thought he was incredible. This is my third season with him, and there have been games that I can remember… when Richy plays well, it’s almost games that you remember, and there’ve been a few of them, but obviously he’s had trouble with injury and things like that.

“However, from day one, he’s come back and been so motivated. You can see it in his eyes, the hunger, working hard. I think it showed today (against Burnley), how hard he works, first and foremost, and then his quality.

“For example, my goal, the touch (where he) flicks (the ball) over someone’s head and then sets it off to Pape (who then released Brennan for his goal). He also scored an unbelievable goal. His first goal as well is not easy at all; the ball is spinning, horrible height, he just tucks it away.

“Hopefully, with his quality and these performances, he can keep picking up more rhythm because he’s been out for a while, and this is the first game of the season, so hopefully the best is still yet to come.”

Spurs have two top-class number nines in their squad

Some Spurs fans are guilty of writing off Richarlison and Solanke too early, and they tend to forget that the club paid £60m and £65m respectively for the pair.

There is a reason why the pair cost so much, with all-around centre-forwards being hard to find in the modern game. Thomas Frank will be quite pleased with the two number nines he has at his disposal.

Frank raved about Richarlison’s work rate, his pressing, and his holdup play following the win over Burnley and Solanke now knows that he faces a battle to get back into the Spurs starting lineup.
