“I don’t see…”- John Wenham gives verdict on Tottenham signing £80m Chelsea star amid strong transfer links

Tottenham need to act fast and pay up if they want to land Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson in the coming weeks

Tottenham need to act fast in the transfer market as the new Premier League season is upon us. The Lilywhites are still looking to bring cover in the ‘number nine’ position for the upcoming campaign. With Dominic Solanke struggling to stay fit and enduring a ‘stop-start’ first campaign at N17, there is no surprise that Daniel Levy is looking to bring in more depth.

Solanke admitted himself that he found life tough during the initial months at N17. One can understand the pressure that comes with leading the front line for a top club and aiming to produce week in week out. But the Spurs No.19 was not helped by the fact that his backup, Richarlison, was injured for most parts of the season as well.

Tottenham are interested in signing Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson in the summer.

Richarlison has not quite enjoyed a successful stint at Hotspur Way following his high-profile switch from Everton. The Brazil international fell down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou last season. And it is looking increasingly likely that the 28-year-old will be sold in the coming weeks to make space for a new signing.

Tottenham are in the race to land Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson

It was reported earlier that Tottenham were looking to land Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson in the coming weeks. The Senegal international has been told by the Blues to find a new club, indicating that he is out of Enzo Maresca’s plans for the upcoming season. The aforementioned report also stated that Chelsea are looking to sell the prolific striker for £80m, as many top clubs line up for his signature.

Now, John Wenham has given his thoughts about Tottenham’s transfer links to Nicolas Jackson. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,

“We’re looking at around 15 goals, that’s the reality. He’s also got a really stupid petulance for getting sent off. You’ve got needless red cards and things like that. I also just don’t see Chelsea selling him to us.”

The Lilywhite Rose owner added,

“There’ll be someone else who will offer the money that they would prefer him to go to. You’ve only got to look at the Conor Gallagher saga last summer. I don’t see Jackson coming to Tottenham.”

John Wenham believes Nicolas Jackson lacks discipline and gets needless red cards during the season. The Lilywhite Rose owner also suggests that Chelsea will not sign the Senegal international to Tottenham due to the rivalry both clubs share. Wenham adds that another club will pay the required amount to sign the 24-year-old. And Chelsea will prefer to sell the striker to that club instead of Spurs.

It remains to be seen how the transfer saga involving the Chelsea star evolves in the coming days. With Spurs looking to add more depth up front, signing Jackson will not necessarily be a bad option. He can provide a different dynamic to the attack, and the Senegalese star still has his best years ahead of him.
