West Brom Pushing to Appoint Tottenham Hotspur Coach as New Manager – Report

Ryan Mason’s Next Step: Torn Between Spurs Loyalty and West Brom Opportunity

As the Championship managerial merry-go-round continues, Ryan Mason stands at a critical career crossroads. Sky Sports News reports that both West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur are awaiting Mason’s decision on his future, expected by early next week. For Mason, the choice lies between remaining as Ange Postecoglou’s trusted assistant or stepping into his first senior managerial role at West Brom.

Mason, still just 32, has become a familiar figure on the Tottenham bench. Twice he has stepped in as interim head coach following managerial upheaval, and his tactical awareness and deep connection to the club have kept him close to the first-team setup. But now, Albion have come calling again, having previously considered him in January. “Sky Sports News has been told Mason will decide in the next few days whether he wants to stay on at Tottenham, or potentially move to the Hawthorns to take up his first role as a ‘number one’,” reads the report.

Tottenham Future in Limbo

Mason’s contract with Tottenham expires at the end of June, adding urgency to the decision. As it stands, no new deal has been confirmed. While he remains part of Postecoglou’s coaching setup, uncertainty over the Australian’s own long-term plans adds another layer of complication.

The North London side recently secured a place in the Europa League — their first European success in 17 years — injecting some optimism into an otherwise turbulent few seasons. This small but significant milestone may weigh heavily on Mason, who has endured the highs and lows of Spurs life first-hand.

“There is uncertainty over Postecoglu’s future in North London,” the article states, underlining that Mason’s decision is not just about job title or salary. It’s about timing, loyalty and a sense of belonging.

West Brom Offer Represents Real Career Milestone

West Brom’s pursuit of Mason comes after the sacking of Tony Mowbray a month ago. The Baggies are keen to finalise their next appointment and see Mason as a top-tier candidate to lead them into the new Championship season. Alongside Mason, other candidates have included Minnesota’s Eric Ramsay, Go Ahead Eagles boss Paul Simonis and QPR’s Marti Cifuentes. Yet, Mason remains “top of Albion’s wanted list”, making it clear that he is far from just another name.

The role would give him a clean slate and a real chance to implement his own philosophy. Albion are no strangers to the Premier League, and a strong campaign under a hungry young manager could see them challenge for promotion once more.

Timing and Legacy Hang in the Balance

If Mason decides to leave, it will likely be with Tottenham’s blessing, though Sky Sports note it is still “not yet clear if Spurs would be prepared to allow him to leave early.” The decision will not be taken lightly. As someone who came through the Spurs academy and has bled for the badge both as a player and a coach, Mason’s departure would represent the end of a defining chapter.
