Wrexham transfer target may now cost £8m as Premier League club seek hefty price tag
Wrexham are interested in signing Nottingham Forest’s Lewis O’Brien, but now may be the time for Phil Parkinson to move on.
Wrexham have made one signing so far this summer, but Phil Parkinson will be working on many more additions.
Ryan Hardie completed his move to Wrexham earlier in June, offering a new attacking option to Parkinson’s ranks.
Wrexham fans are waiting for further signings, and there has been a focus on outgoings in recent days.
Paul Mullin signed for Wigan Athletic while Will Boyle completed a move to Shrewsbury Town, with more exits likely to come.
Nottingham Forest set huge demand for Lewis O’Brien
Wrexham will face Southampton on the opening day of the Championship season, handing Parkinson a tough task to kick off the campaign.
Parkinson will be desperate to add Championship quality to his side, though one target is now looking pretty expensive.
Wrexham are interested in signing Lewis O’Brien, with the midfielder back at Nottingham Forest this summer.
O’Brien impressed on loan at Swansea City and could have provided proven quality on the left side of Wrexham’s midfield.
O’Brien has been heavily linked with Hull City, though claims that they would be paying £5million for his signature were shot down.
It turns out the price tag may actually be even higher, with The Sun now claiming that Forest want an enormous £8million fee for O’Brien.
Forest signed O’Brien in a £10million double-swoop alongside Harry Toffolo in 2022, raiding Huddersfield Town for the pair.
Now ready to cash in, Forest appear to be seeking a hefty fee for O’Brien off the back of his strong spell with Swansea.
Birmingham City are also keen on O’Brien, and these latest claims about Forest’s asking price only serve to complicate matters even further for Wrexham.
Phil Parkinson may be tempted to move on to other Wrexham targets
Make no mistake, we would love to see O’Brien in Wrexham’s midfield.
A proven Championship performer with bags of energy and quality in the final third, O’Brien would be an instant-impact player for Wrexham.
£5million would have sounded a little exorbitant for us, though, never mind this new rumoured £8million asking price.
Add in the raft of Championship clubs also chasing O’Brien, and this potential move is becoming something of a headache.
Wrexham have other targets in mind in terms of left-footed midfielders, with Fulham’s Tom Cairney a target for Parkinson.
Barry Bannan is also wanted by Wrexham, while Charlie Savage has been linked with a move to the STōK Cae Ras.
A left-footed midfielder is a real focus for Wrexham, but O’Brien may not be the man this summer.
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson must make sure that one forward is not left surplus to requirements this season; he has proven Championship experience that would massively benefit the side.
Wrexham have achieved three successive promotions, having dramatically risen from the National League to the Championship.
