Union Berlin chief aims shocking dig at Brenden Aaronson - days after USMNT star scored late winner for Bundesliga side | Goal.com

Wrexham must make move to sign ‘quality’ 48-cap USA star who’s bound to leave Premier League club

Ten years ago, the thought of Wrexham being a hit in the USA could’ve been unimaginable. But it’s now reality.

Wrexham have become a household name in the USA. Or at least in many homes in the States, thanks to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney‘s purchase of the club in 2021, along with the success of the docuseries Welcome to Wrexham.

There’s now a new season of Welcome to Wrexham airing and it’s proving popular as ever, largely owing to the Dragons’ promotion from League One under Phil Parkinson last time round: a historic third-straight promotion for the club.

Reynolds has predicted Wrexham could play in the Premier League in the next few years. And given the calibre of some of the players being linked this summer, Wrexham could well be a Premier League side sooner than expected.

Among the names mentioned are the likes of Jamie Vardy, Tom Cairney, and Jonny Evans, whilst Christian Eriksen is a rumoured transfer target for Wrexham as well.

Brenden Aaronson is facing uncertain Leeds United future

Leeds United have just won the Championship title. Whilst great news for the club, it could be bad news for midfielder Brenden Aaronson – described as a ‘quality’ player by USMNT boss Mauricio Pochettino – who now looks like he could be on his way out of Elland Road this summer.

Speaking to Leeds United News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey explained: “Brenden Aaronson’s future is far from certain. Daniel Farke has made it clear to the club’s hierarchy that a new no.10 must be a priority for them this summer, and they clearly agree, hence the interest that has already been shown in Emi Buendia and Gustavo Hamer.

“I fully expect Hamer or Buendia to be that player. But with that it does mean that Aaronson will not be a starter in the Premier League. He is aware of the situation and he is considering his options. I am told there is interest in him, mainly on the continent back in Germany.”

Three reasons why Wrexham should move for Brenden Aaronson this summer

Brenden Aaronson would reinforce Wrexham’s US influence

Already, it’s thought that 5,000 households in the US have a Wrexham subscription. Along with the growth of the Premier League in the States, Wrexham could one day become one of the most supported teams in the country.

It’s enabled the club to attract some serious sponsorship deals which has in turn given the club some likewise resources for new signings. Signing Aaronson would bring yet more US fans to the club, which could help with future sponsorships and marketing.

Brenden Aaronson has just proven himself in the Championship

Earlier in the summer, it was reported that Parkinson wants to sign Championship-experienced players at the Racecourse this summer, and that’s exactly what Aaronson is.

As well as having 48 caps for the USA to his name, and 36 in the Premier League and 30 in the Bundesliga, Aaronson played in all 46 of Leeds’ Championship games last season and scored nine goals, assisting two more.

Although he was a divisive figure among Leeds supporters, if he was the main man at a team like Wrexham who wouldn’t be as dominant as Leeds, he could really prevail.

Brenden Aaronson would be a huge upgrade on Jay Rodriguez

The no.10 spot at Wrexham, or more of a second-striker spot, was Jay Rodriguez’s in the second half of last season. But Wrexham fans were highly critical of Rodriguez who they thought offered very little to the side.

Replacing him with Aaronson, who cost Leeds a whopping £24million from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022, would be a huge upgrade for sure.

Though expect Wrexham to have to pursue a potential loan deal for Aaronson which could actually work for all parties as Aaronson remains fairly young at 24, whilst Wrexham have a £25million transfer budget which is needed for multiple signings.
