Sky Sports pundit shares reason Wrexham ‘may want to’ sell Paul Mullin in summer transfer window

Wrexham could move Paull Mullin on in the 2025 summer transfer window, according to one pundit.

Wrexham signed Paul Mullin from Cambridge United back in the summer of 2021 on a free transfer.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds were warned about moving for Mullin at the time due to the potential finances involved.

However, it has since proven to be perhaps one of the best transfers in the history of the football club.

Mullin has scored over 100 goals for Wrexham and has been their top scorer in the previous three campaigns.

But 2024/25 has seen the striker’s game time reduced greatly, not featuring in League One since January 28.

This has led to speculation that Mullin could leave Wrexham in the coming months.

The 30-year-old remains under contract until 2027 and could benefit from the Championship rules next season.

Wrexham fans want Mullin to feature this weekend in what has been described as a ‘farewell’ fixture.

Now, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has been discussing the centre-forward and why the Red Dragons could be looking to move him on in the summer, pointing toward the club being able to spend money on a higher quality replacement.

He told Football League World: “There would be an element of sentiment there, I don’t think he would be used sentimentally. I think he’s a player that is proven to be a very decent part of this Wrexham side.

“However, the Championship, as we know, is brutal. Wrexham, potentially, given their financial foundations, may want to think that – and this is casting no shade on Paul Mullin – they maybe want to look at someone more established from a Championship point of view, or someone dropping down from the Premier League.”

Paul Mullin said about staying at Wrexham

Mullin commented on leaving Wrexham back in April 2024, making it clear he was not looking to depart.

He said: “Obviously, I want to play at the highest level possible. I’d love to play for Wales, the country where my nan was born. But in terms of leaving the club it’s never something I think about.

“I signed a new contract with Wrexham in January because I absolutely adore it. I come home every day and see (his son) Albi, which is the main reason I signed in the first place.”

Since that time, Mullin has dropped down the striker pecking order to fifth or sixth choice behind Jay Rodriguez, Sam Smith, Steven Fletcher, and Jack Marriott.
