Leicester City Complete Deal for ‘Veteran’ With Over 250 Premier League Appearances
With the upcoming Championship season vastly approaching, Leicester City complete their first piece of business. Marti Cifuentes arrived in the East Midlands after two seasons with QPR. Could his first signing be one of his key players from the great escape two seasons ago?

Asmir Begovic: Leicester City’s New Signing
Asmir Begovic has officially joined the Foxes for the upcoming campaign. The keeper most recently featured for QPR, having tallied 45 league appearances during the 2023/24 season.
Alex Crook previously reported that a one-year deal has been signed. With the loss of goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar to Brighton, a coaching role may also be agreed upon in the future.
The Bosnian international is a potential option in between the sticks, amid the likely sale of Mads Hermansen. City’s first choice for the past two seasons is likely to depart amid Tom Collomosse’s recent report.
The acquisition is the first of the summer, and simultaneously the first under their new manager.
How would this affect Leicester City?
Although signing a veteran keeper isn’t the most exciting piece of news, it is something necessary for the the upcoming campaign. Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen both left the club this summer, whilst academy keeper Brad Young was release.
Therefore, bringing in an experienced option to act as a second or third choice is key, especially considering the dwindling numbers. Furthermore, Hermansen could also be on his way out, due to interest from Premier League sides.
A final way in which Begovic could prove to be helpful to Cifuentes’ side is through his experience. Due to the many exits, Jakub Stolarczyk and Stevie Bausor remain the two options utilised during pre-season. Adding someone with over 250 Premier League appearances could significantly help the inexperienced duo that are currently between the sticks.
