Left-back Adrien Truffert has signed for the Cherries from Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais.
The 23-year-old Frenchman joins Andoni Iraola’s team with impressive experience, having also skippered Rennes in the second half of last season.
Here are five things you might not have known about the full-back…
- Belgian beginnings
Having represented France at several youth levels, and in the senior and Olympic teams, Truffert’s place of birth was elsewhere
Born in Liège, Belgium, in 2001 to French parents, his family stayed there for a short time before returning to France.
He was approached to play for the Belgian national team as a teenager ahead of Euro 2020, but kept his sights firmly fixed on les Bleus.
- Teenage debutant
Now 23, both of Truffert’s Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League debuts for Rennes came as a teenager.
In September 2020, he was a first-half substitute to make his maiden league appearance against AS Monaco as an 18-year-old, providing the assist for Steven Nzonzi’s late winner in a 2-1 victory.
The defender’s Champions League debut came in the following month, entering the action late on in a 1-1 home draw with FC Krasnodar at Roazhon Park.
- UEFA bingo
Having made nearly 200 appearances for Brittany-based Rennes, Truffert has appeared in all of the UEFA club competitions.
First up was the Champions League, featuring five times in a group of FC Krasnodar, Chelsea and Sevilla in his debut season back in 2020/21.
The following season came the Europa Conference League, playing twice in qualifying and seven times in the competition proper ahead of a round-of-16 exit to Leicester City.
In both the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, Rennes qualified for the Europa League, in which Truffert featured in all 16 fixtures en route to back-to-back exits in the knockout round play-offs.
- Olympic medallist
At the 2024 Olympics held in France, Truffert picked up a silver medal in men’s football.
The French team, managed by Thierry Henry, defeated the USA, Guinea, New Zealand – the only game which Truffert did not feature in – Argentina and Egypt ahead of the final.
At a packed Parc des Princes, les Bleus faced off with Spain in the final and were beaten 5-3 in extra-time following a double from now-Rayo Vallecano forward Sergio Camello.
- French knighthood
For his efforts at the Olympics and winning a silver medal, Truffert was made a knight of the National Order of Merit in the same year.
The Ordre national du Mérite dates back to 1963 and is awarded by the President of the French Republic.
It is given for distinguished civil or military achievements, with all of France’s medal-winning athletes receiving the recognition.
