Jayden Danns “Buzzing To Keep Scoring” In FA Cup - The Liverpool Offside

EFL boss gutted after missing out on Jayden Danns to Sunderland, admits he was ‘aiming a bit high’

Deadline day was as eventful as ever for Sunderland, who signed Jayden Danns amid links to a handful of others.

Although the January deadline day just gone wasn’t as busy as recent ones at the Stadium of Light, in terms of deals getting over the line, it was another exciting and eventful one nonetheless.

Sunderland have signed Jayden Danns on loan from Liverpool for the remainder of the season, and he joins the likes of Enzo Le Fee in joining Sunderland on loan in January, whilst the club signed Wilson Isidor permanently from Zenit.

It’s given Regis Le Bris a nice bit of extra depth for the remainder of the campaign as he looks to return the Black Cats to the Premier League after an eight-year hiatus.

Danns especially could be crucial in the run in. He bolsters what remains quite a thin striker department at Sunderland, in what is his first loan move away form Anfield. And as it turns out, Sunderland weren’t the only ones who wanted to sign him.

League One Rotherham United were also in for Danns. Their manager, Steve Evans, has admitted that he tried to sign two strikers on deadline day with one of them being Danns.

But Evans also admits that he was perhaps aiming a bit too high with a move for Danns. The Millers boss told Rotherham Advertiser: “We tried on two striker fronts, one early in the window, one all the way through the window.

“One went off to Sunderland and one didn’t move at all. We were disappointed about that. We’d have loved to have had Johnny. We’d have loved to have had the boy, Danns. We were probably aiming a bit high in the sky with that one.”

When will Jayden Danns be available for Sunderland?

Soon after Danns moved to Wearside, an injury was uncovered. As part of his medical, Sunderland discovered a back injury for Danns which means he’s going to be out of action for an unknown period of time.

Inevitably, the news has sparked a reaction from Sunderland fans who are questioning why Danns was even signed. Clearly though, nobody knew about the injury until he was in the building for his medical.

Hopefully the 19-year-old can make a hasty recovery and hit the ground running for Sunderland in their quest for promotion. The Black Cats take on Watford at home on Saturday afternoon.
