Blackburn Rovers pair close in on Derby County move
Derby County are set to sign Blackburn Rovers duo Andreas Weimann and Danny Batth on free transfers, reports Pete O’Rourke.
Derby County are preparing for another campaign in the Championship after successfully avoiding relegation at the first attempt. DCFC found themselves in a dangerous position before John Eustace stepped in to guide them to safety.
Now, under the leadership of the former Blackburn Rovers manager, widely regarded as one of the Championship’s most underrated coaches, Derby are aiming to build momentum. However, progress will depend on reinforcements, and reports suggest a double signing could soon be on the cards.
According to reporter Pete O’Rourke, reporting on X, Derby County are closing in on the signings of Andreas Weimann and Danny Batth. The pair were reportedly in for medicals on Thursday of this week ahead of a move on a free transfer.
Their contracts at Blackburn Rovers are up at the end of the month, and John Eustace has swooped in. He was with the pair at Rovers before he made the switch to DCFC earlier this year.
The pair will bring a huge amount of Championship experience to the club. Eustace is looking for some experienced heads to join the Rams this summer.
Start of a Blackburn raid
Weimann and Batth are not the only players from Blackburn Rovers that John Eustace is keen on bringing to Derby County. Club captain Lewis Travis has also been linked with a move to the club.
They face plenty of competition to sign Travis with several other clubs, including Wrexham, keen. Unlike Weimann and Batth, Travis would be a much harder deal to get done as he still has a year left on his deal at Ewood Park.
Travis clearly made a good impression on Eustace during his time at Blackburn, but it will be a costly deal. With sides like Wrexham involved, they could struggle to get the deal done.
A great start to the window
The expected signings of Weimann and Batth are top additions for Derby County. They, along with Carlton Morris, who is already through the door, represent an excellent start to the window.
All three bring bags of experience at this level. Morris, in particular, has been phenomenal for Luton Town over the past three years.
If Eustace can get all three fit and firing for Derby County, they will be brilliant signings. The signs are very encouraging at Pride Park to start the summer.
