Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth interested in Sheffield Wednesday forward
Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth and Oxford United all have an interest in Sheffield Wednesday man Jamal Lowe, as per EFL Analysis.
Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth, Oxford United and Sheffield Wednesday are all preparing for Championship football again ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
While Rovers came up short in their late play-off push, the Owls finished in mid-table. Pompey and the U’s staved off relegation in solid first seasons back in the second tier after promotion from League One.
Transfer business awaits all four sides, though the wait for staff payments is the most pressing matter at Hillsborough. Now, it is said the aforementioned trio could look to prise Jamal Lowe away from Wednesday.
EFL Analysis claims that all of Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth and Oxford United are among the several clubs eyeing a possible deal for versatile forward Lowe this summer.
The 30-year-old attacker fell down the pecking order at Hillsborough over the course of the season but is not short of options ahead of a potential exit. Of the three linked though, it is said that a Pompey reunion is of huge intrigue to Lowe.
Jamaican international Lowe signed a two-year deal upon arrival at Wednesday last summer, so is under contract for another 12 months.
Looking for a fresh start
A summer of change lays ahead at Sheffield Wednesday though their ongoing financial troubles makes it tough to anticipate exactly what their summer will look like.
However, Lowe does seem likely to eye a fresh start. The rumoured Blackburn Rovers, Portsmouth and Oxford United target looked a shrewd free transfer signing for the Owls but minutes proved hard to come by, playing 958 minutes over his 24 Championship appearances.
In the process, he chipped in with three goals and two assists. Lowe also netted in an EFL Cup win over Grimsby Town.
Ideal for Blackburn Rovers?
Given that Lowe didn’t exactly set the world alight last season, Blackburn Rovers may not be particularly excited by his signing. However, the forward could be a very astute addition for Valerien Ismael and co.
Lowe can play in a range of attacking roles though primarily operates as a striker. He is comfortable on either wing and has played as an attacking midfielder too though.
He would be a cheap pickup for Rovers and for that, they would be getting a versatile and experienced Championship forward. If they were to give Lowe sufficient game time, he could provide a steady slow of goals and assists over a full campaign.
