Middlesbrough set to win race for 19-year-old eyed by Leicester City, Wrexham
Middlesbrough are set to sign young forward Jayden Carbon from Oxford City, according to a report from Football Insider.
Few EFL sides have had a transfer window as quiet as Middlesbrough, with no players signed and only one sold to date.
Josh Coburn joined Championship rivals Millwall on a permanent basis, so new boss Rob Edwards is very much working with the group he inherited from previous boss Michael Carrick earlier this summer.
However, there is a desire to change that over the coming weeks, and it seems a breakthrough on the transfer front is just around the corner.

According to a report from Football Insider, Middlesbrough are set to sign 19-year-old star Jayden Carbon from Oxford City. They report that he is expected to see his move to the Championship club completed on Wednesday.
Carbon had drawn interest from Leicester City and Wrexham, the same outlet reported at the start of July. Alas, he looks set to swap Oxfordshire for Teesside as he makes a big jump up the leagues.
It remains to be seen whether the teenager will go straight into Edwards’ senior squad, or if he will cut his teeth in the academy before looking to make the step up.
Existing Middlesbrough striker options
Carbon went into the 2024/25 National League North campaign with six senior appearances to his name, but he really affirmed his place in the Oxford City side over the course of last season.
Used in a range of attacking roles but primarily as a striker or winger, Carbon notched five goals and one assist in 39 league games.
Middlesbrough could do with new options up top, and as a club with eyes on developing the next generation, Carbon could be one of the latest to follow the path to first-team stardom on Teesside.
Edwards currently enters this season with Tommy Conway and Marcus Forss as his only experienced strikers. Delano Burgzorg can be used up top, but beyond those three, there are only younger options like Sonny Finch.
Boro’s transfer window kicks off with one for the future
Edwards will be eager to add proven players with pedigree at Championship level to his ranks, but it seems the Boro transfer window is kicking off with a prospect for the future.
