Former Wrexham favourite makes pre-season training decision after being released by Phil Parkinson
Wrexham said an emotional goodbye to Jordan Davies this summer, with the playmaker now attempting to find himself a new club.
Wrexham clinched a third straight promotion back in April, securing Championship football for the 2025-26 season.
Each promotion has been a momentous occasion for Wrexham, and the celebrations on the STōK Cae Ras pitch have been moments to cherish.
These promotions also bring tough decisions, though, with Phil Parkinson facing the pain of allowing players to leave the club.
Not everybody can stay on this Wrexham journey through the leagues, and we have already seen some painful exits this summer.
Paul Mullin’s move to Wigan Athletic was a tough one to swallow despite his lack of action in 2025, while Steven Fletcher’s exit surprised many.
Jordan Davies takes next step after Wrexham exit
One man who should not be forgotten is Jordan Davies.
Davies played a crucial role in the early stages of Wrexham’s rise, smashing 15 goals in the National League during the first season of the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds era.
The Wrexham-born midfielder came up in the youth ranks before heading to Brighton and Hove Albion in 2017, only to return to Wrexham in 2020.
That stunning National League campaign left fans dreaming of Davies being the driving force of a new, upwardly mobile Wrexham side, but he found chances harder and harder to come by as Wrexham progressed.
Wrexham sent Davies on loan to Grimsby last summer and have now released the 26-year-old at the end of his contract.
Davies has yet to find a new club but has now taken an interesting step by joining the PFA pre-season camp this week.
Davies is one of a host of free agents heading to Leicestershire for a training camp, which will aid with fitness and sharpness ahead of joining new clubs.
The midfielder is bound to have League Two interest this summer but he isn’t waiting around for opportunities, instead taking it upon himself to go and work alongside fellow free agents ahead of the new season.
Anthony Forde joins Jordan Davies
Davies isn’t even the only former Wrexham man on the list, with Anthony Forde’s name also appearing.
Wrexham released Forde back in February, with the Irishman well down the pecking order under Parkinson.
Forde’s departure was an emotional one, and he moved on to Burton Albion on a free transfer.
The Brewers allowed Forde to leave this summer, and he is now joining Davies at the PFA training camp in something of a Wrexham reunion.
The 31-year-old still has plenty left in the tank and will surely attract interest, just like Davies.
