Kalen DeBoer highlights 2 Alabama positions that could look different in 2025
Kalen DeBoer sat down with 247 Sports’ Josh Pate recently, and he discussed two positions Alabama could see perform better in 2025.
DeBoer is confident in Alabama football’s wide receiver and defensive back room ahead of the 2025 season.
The Crimson Tide added talent to their wide receiver room via the transfer portal and the high school ranks.
“I think JaMarcus Shepherd with the receiving group, we had some turnover and really some guys that we’ve brought into the program that I think add to Ryan Williams and Germie Bernard,” DeBoer said. “It’s just really fun seeing the personality of Shep come out in that group, really attacking everything, the work there. I’m excited about the development of that position.”
Alabama returns multiple starters in the secondary, and DeBoer feels this remains a plus.
“And then the defensive backs is, a year ago where we were at, and we had names,” DeBoer said. “We brought guys in, but they were completely new to this program and in many cases, completely new to college football coming out of high school. We took some lumps, but those lumps, I think, relative to what people probably thought we were gonna take at that position is a tribute to Mo Linquist and what he does with the defensive backs there and Kane Womack as the coordinator. I’m excited about those two groups as you mentioned and just how different they are than they were a year ago.”
Alabama football has its eyes set on having a strong summer.

Former Alabama Crimson Tide Head Coach Nick Saban Gets Praised By Donald Trump

Saban introduced Trump at the commencement ceremony on Thursday night. Trump talked about many different topics at the ceremony, especially about the sports programs. He loved to talk about the former Crimson Tide football head coach. Trump said,
“Nick (Saban), what a great coach. Let’s bring him back. No, you have a good coach right now, though. You have a good coach right now.”
Trump also added is not only “a great football school,” but “now one of the nation’s best basketball schools.”

Kalen DeBoer led the Crimson Tide to a 9-3 record in 2024, but they failed to make the expanded college football playoffs. Alabama will need to have a bounce back 2025 season in college football. As for the basketball program, Nate Oats led Alabama to a Final Four appearance in 2023-2024 before losing to the UCONN Huskies. The Crimson Tide got back to the Elite 8 led by Grant Nelson and Marcus Sears before losing to the Duke Blue Devils.
As for Trump calling for Saban to come back and coach the Crimson Tide, Saban is 73 years old and is enjoying retirement on TV. He had six national titles with Alabama and one with the LSU Tigers. His overall record was 292-71-1 in his collegiate career. DeBoer will be under pressure to get Alabama to the playoffs in 2025. If not, Trump and other Crimson Tide fans may want to see Saban back on the sidelines also.
