Clemson-helmets-new

Clemson Places 31 on 2024 All-ACC Academic Football Team | The Clemson InsiderAs the regular season winds down, Clemson will take a brief step out of ACC play on Nov. 22 when it welcomes in-state FCS opponent Furman to Memorial Stadium. This matchup is a staple of Clemson’s non-conference scheduling philosophy, which typically includes two power-conference opponents, one Group of Five team, and one in-state FCS program each season.

While these games are often seen as a formality, they serve as an important piece of the Tigers’ overall strategy. History is overwhelmingly in Clemson’s favor. Since the Division I split in 1978, the Tigers have been flawless against FCS opponents, boasting a perfect 39-0 record. What’s even more impressive is that 38 of those victories have come by double digits. That dominance extends to Furman, a program Clemson has routinely handled in previous meetings.

However, for Furman, this game represents more than just another matchup-it’s a golden opportunity to test themselves against one of the nation’s premier programs on one of college football’s biggest stages. For Clemson, the Furman game serves multiple purposes. First and foremost, the Tigers are looking to maintain their perfect record against FCS teams. But this contest also provides a chance to fine-tune execution, giving them a chance to iron out any wrinkles before their crucial regular-season finale.

In addition, the game allows for rotation, giving younger players key in-game experience and keeping the starters fresh for the stretch run. While Furman will enter Death Valley eager to compete, Clemson’s depth, talent, and sheer physicality make an upset highly unlikely. Expect the Tigers to use this game as a tune-up for the more significant challenges ahead, all while continuing their long-standing dominance over FCS competition.
