Why Jayden Danns’ deadline day transfer from Liverpool has not been announced
Jayden Danns is set to spend the remainder of the season on loan at Sunderland after being given the green light to depart Liverpool on transfer deadline day
Sunderland is on the brink of confirming the signing of Liverpool’s promising talent Jayden Danns. The Reds have opted to loan out the striker as Arne Slot feels confident with his current attacking options.
Danns has featured four times for Liverpool this season, with his last appearance marking his Champions League debut in the 3-2 loss to PSV Eindhoven just last week. While many anticipated the announcement on Monday night, it’s understood that Danns managed to finalize all necessary paperwork in time, paving the way for him to join Sunderland for the remainder of the season.
The Sunderland ECHO suggests that the announcement was delayed due to the Black Cats’ clash with Middlesbrough on Monday night. Sunderland presented the most attractive proposal for the 19 year old as it pushes for a Premier League comeback
The club’s promotion ambitions were bolstered by a thrilling 3-2 victory at the Riverside last night. Currently sitting fourth in the Championship and trailing the leaders Leeds United by five points, Danns could make his Sunderland debut against Watford at the Stadium of Light come Saturday.
Last month, Liverpool manager Slot commented on loaning players: “You take a lot of things into account if you want to loan out a player, and this could be one of them.
“But there are also other factors you take into account: is it good for a player to get some playing time, yes or no? Do we think we still need him? We do have already three options for the No. 9 position and it’s not like we expect Jota to now be out for a long period of time.
“Jayden did really well when he came in so we actually have four options. Then it’s up to us as a club to make the best possible decision for the near future, but also for the long-term future of this club.”
