Crawley Town boss gives his verdict on Portsmouth keeper after clean sheet against Birmingham City
The hosts peppered Stewards goal with shots in the opening 10 minutes but he dealt with everything which came his way.
Even when Crawley grew into the game a bit Birmingham kept looking like a threat, with Steward not letting anything past him.
Apart from one loose pass which led to a blocked shot, it was a faultless performance from the emergency loan keeper.
Lindsey said: “I thought Toby was brilliant in goal. I thought not just his shot stopping but also the way he had the ball and the decisions that he made.
“I thought Dion [Conroy] really helped him with the goal kicks. I thought we looked really good playing out from the back today and a lot of credit has got to go to Toby with that.”
Along with Steward, everyone in a Crawley shirt played their part in an important draw. Despite this, Lindsey still was a little bit disappointed in the opening spell in which Steward kept them in the game.
He said: “I just wanted that little bit more in the first half and not to get shy by the fact that we’re playing in front of 27,000 against Birmingham who were the champions. I don’t care. I wanted just to go out there and really show us.
“It’s important that we showed us today and I think we did that in the end. I’m really proud of the team.”
Dan Green on facing Crawley away
With a trip to Crawley coming up on Easter Monday, Dan Green previewed City’s trip.
The Grecians know Crawley’s threats, highlighted in December’s 4-4 draw.
“I think they’re in the top three, maybe second for possession in this league,” said Dan. “So I think we’ll see a team who are looking to make the pitch big, looking to create space with their rotations, the way that they look to play.”
“We’ve been really consistent in the way that we look to prepare for every team, once they finish their game today we’ll have that watch. We’re already prepared based on their last few games and will be ready to go on Monday.”
This week has seen fantastic achievements for two young players in Dan’s PDP group, with Tom Dean earning a new contract, and Jake Richards nominated for EFL Apprentice of the Year, something Dan stated multiple people can take pride in.
“Fantastic for both them as young men, but also for their families, the academy coaches who have worked with them for a number of years, I’m sure there will be a lot of people who take great pride in the week that they’ve had. This week is an outcome of a season’s worth of work that they do.”
