Hull City transfer news: Ex-Tiger highlights key area for summer improvement - Hull Live

Ex-Hull City transfer chief leaves Tigers Championship rivals as search begins for replacement

The Potters have undergone another backroom reshuffle

Former Hull City head of recruitment Lee Darnbrough has left his role at the Tigers Championship rivals Stoke City with the Potters looking to secure a replacement.

Darnbrough spent seven years at City and oversaw the change in ownership from the Allam family to Acun Ilicali before leaving the club in May, and shortly after that, he joined the Potters in June.

Operating under sporting director Jon Walters, Darnbrough worked through the summer and winter windows at the bet365 Stadium before his departure was announced on Thursday, a little over a week after the winter window closed.

The Potters’ ability to manoeuvre in the transfer window was hampered by their need to fall within strict Financial Fair Play rules having spent big in previous windows, and signed players like Tom Cannon in the summer before he returned to Leicester City last month and sold to Sheffield United, and Ali Al-Hamadi, who scored in the 2-1 win at the MKM Stadium at the beginning of the month.

“Lee has our sincere thanks for his efforts and dedication during his time at Stoke City. We wish him well for the future,” Walters said after his exit was confirmed.

The process to identify a new recruitment lead for the club is now underway. We will inform supporters once a new appointment is made.”

Following Darnbrough’s departure from the MKM Stadium, City moved to appoint Jared Dublin, who ironically had been his predecessor in the Potteries.

Dublin was then promoted to sporting director at City and, during a busy month at the start of the New Year, oversaw the arrival of eight new players, including Kyle Joseph, Eliot Matazo and Joe Gelhardt, while a flurry of players were moved on with Ruben Selles keen to move fringe players out.
