Wrexham vs Charlton Athletic injury news as 6 ruled out and 2 doubts
Charlton Athletic head to Wrexham on Saturday for the game of the weekend in League One, with both sides in contention for automatic promotion to the Championship. Wrexham are in pole position for second place, currently in second, two points ahead of Wycombe Wanderers and four ahead of Charlton with all three goal differences very close.
There are plenty of permutations this weekend, and one of them could lead to Wrexham winning promotion in front of their own fans, with that scenario requiring them to win and see Wycombe lose to playoff hopefuls Leyton Orient. If the Welsh side fail to win and Wycombe do, they will drop to third place, while Charlton’s equation is simpler.
Nathan Jones’ men know they realistically need to pull off a mammoth win in North Wales to stay in with a chance of automatic promotion, and if they do, they will move to within one point of their opponents, while they would then be either above Wycombe by one point, level on points or still two points behind heading into the final day, depending on what result they manage at Orient. Here we round up all the latest injury news surrounding Charlton and Wrexham heading into this mouth-watering clash.
Andy Cannon – Out
Cannon is out for the season, with Parkinson saying at the time: “It’s a long road ahead for Andy. He’s in every day and it’s great to have him around with the lads.”
Bolton has a calf injury that has kept him out over recent months, and he is not in their EFL squad due to the injury.
Will Boyle – Out
The same can be said of Boyle, who also has a calf issue.
Mo Faal – Out
Parkinson has said: “Unfortunately, Mo got injured in training this week, which is a blow and it’s quite a bad injury with his thigh.”
Luke Berry – Doubt
Jones has said: “It was a bruising game so we’ve had to dust them down this week. Everything’s going to be touch and go before the weekend, so we’ll just see. We’re going up there in good spirits and if anyone doesn’t make it, it’s just another opportunity for someone else.”
Lloyd Jones – Doubt
The same update was issued of Jones.
Chuks Aneke – Out (Suspended)
Aneke was sent off last time out and the appeal was rejected, meaning he will be absent here.
Miles Leaburn – Out
Leaburn is out for the season. Jones said at the time: “It has been a productive one because it was probably more productive than last year. It is a step up. He has been part of a real progression and evolution process here. And he is one that will only get better. He needs a certain amount of work around his body, and so on, to get the durability back but he has been fantastic – in how he has trained and come back from that, mentally and physically. It was really innocuous how he picked up this injury and that is the frustrating thing for us.”
Daniel Kanu – Fit
Jones has confirmed that Kanu will return from injury here, saying: “He’s in the squad and he’ll travel with us this week, so that’s a bonus.”
