Shakira’s tour chaos as dressing room floods moments before she’s due on stage
Shakira’s Mexican tour was thrown into jeopardy after a torrential downpour flooded the singer’s dressing room moments before she was set to go on stage
Singing sensation Shakira’s latest tour date was thrown into chaos after a torrential downpour in Mexico. The Waka Waka songstress, 48, saw her show nearly be washed out after her dressing room flooded by torrential rain moments before her concert.
Just before she was set to go on stage at the sell-out concert, the Colombian was met with the issue. She also took to the stage nearly three hours late due to technical issues caused by the rainstorm.
However, her army of fans was happy to wait in the pouring rain for their idol to take to the stage. The Hips Don’t Lie’hitmaker was performing two shows at the Corregidora Stadium in Querétaro, Mexico, on 2 and 3 September as part of her ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ world tour.
But minutes before her concert on Wednesday, Shakira shared a clip of her flooded dressing room for her 93million Instagram fans, as reported by What’s The Jam.
In the post, Shakira wrote: “Look at my dressing room before last night’s concert.” In the footage, plastic bags were seen covering every inch of the room as water poured from the ceiling.
The singer’s technical team were forced to make emergency adjustments to make sure everything was safe at the event. And despite coming on stage hours late, Shakira was met with a standing ovation by those appreciative of the star not cancelling the performance.
Her tour is continuing to break records in Mexico. She has already sold over one million tickets in the country. It’s not the only mishap of her tour to date, either. On 20 May, Shakira fell over on stage while performing at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. She joked afterwards: “No one is safe from falls!”
And in February, she was forced to cancel a second concert just a week on from pulling the plug on another having been rushed to hospital. She had to postpone her show in Medellin, Colombia, due to safety concerns.
A roof malfunction at the venue posed a potential hazard, organisers say, and it wasn’t able to be fixed before the star was due to go on stage. A week earlier, she shared her devastation at another cancellation.
Taking to social media, she said: “I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalised. The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.
