Ruud van Nistelrooy slammed for calling out controversial goal during Man United vs Leicester
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been called out by former Sky Sports pundit Richard Keys for having “the cheek” to complain about the controversial offside in Leicester City’s defeat against Manchester United.
Harry Maguire’s winner was blasted by Van Nistelrooy after replays showed the former Leicester defender was in an offside position.
Leicester fans claimed they had been ‘cheated’ out of extra time and a potential win in the FA Cup at Old Trafford.
The likes of Ian Wright and Roy Keane agreed the offside call was poor, but, not everyone was in agreement with the Foxes boss.
Richard Keys hits out at Ruud van Nistelrooy for offside goal complaint
Had Maguire’s goal been correctly ruled out then extra time would’ve been a dead cert.
Van Nistelrooy stated it was ‘offside time’ after being asked how it felt to concede in the final moments of the second half, otherwise known as ‘Fergie time’.
Unlike everyone else, the outspoken Keys wasn’t as sympathetic as others towards the Leicester manager’s frustrations.
Writing in his latest blogpost, Keys said: “A lot of fuss was made about United’s winner v Leicester. Oh the irony Ruud. How van Nistelrooy had the cheek to complain about a decision going against his team I don’t know.
Richard Keys explains why VAR wasn’t needed for Harry Maguire goal
Due to VAR not coming into effect until the fifth round, the technology couldn’t intervene to overrule the decision to allow Maguire to stand.
There’s an argument to make that the officials could’ve still easily spotted the United defender in the offside position – with the linesman clearly in line with the England international.
It was the exact point that Keys made and he even went as far as to blame the officials.
He continued: “Of course there was the usual clamour by lazy pundits and journo’s claiming Maguire’s header wouldn’t have stood if technology had been available. It didn’t need VAR. Maguire was a mile offside. You could see that with the naked eye. It just needed our hapless officials to do their jobs properly.”
