‘Rohl’s farewell’ – Sheffield Wednesday vs Portsmouth prediction: The72
Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth meet in the Championship this weekend with both sides eager to end the campaign on a high.
Sheffield Wednesday come into this weekend’s clash with Portsmouth sat 13th in the Championship table. SWFC are not at risk of relegation but have fallen away from the play-off chase over recent weeks.
Uncertainty surrounds the Owls amid takeover speculation and constant links between Danny Rohl and numerous managerless clubs. It is setting up to be a very important summer window at Hillsborough, but they’ll be keen to end this campaign on a high.
Rohl’s men picked up a first win in six Championship games on Easter Monday. Wednesday defeated Middlesbrough 2-1 thanks to second-half goals from Josh Windass and Anthony Musaba.
As for Portsmouth, they make the journey up to Sheffield Wednesday having secured survival on Monday. It marks a successful first season back in the Championship for Pompey, who came up as League One champions.
John Mousinho has been heralded for his work at Fratton Park. He has them sat 16th in the table with two games left to play and they could still finish as high as 12th, with four points between them and Watford.
Pompey were victorious over the Hornets on Monday with Colby Bishop’s goal proving decisive.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
James Ray
“Sheffield Wednesday needed that return to winning ways on Monday. They might not have anything to play for but having something to celebrate was a must at SWFC amid uncertainty going into the summer.
“Portsmouth will be out to get a result but their away record has been poor this season. It’s something they really need to improve next campaign if they’re to progress.

“Some will wonder if this could be Rohl’s farewell at Hillsborough, this being the last home game of the season amid strong exit links.
“I can see this ending level at 1-1.”
Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Portsmouth
Harry Mail
“Sheffield Wednesday were in poor form before they beat Middlesbrough last time out. SWFC showed good character to come from behind to win against Boro.
“Danny Rohl will be wanting more of the same from his players. He will want the Owls to end this season on a high.
“As for Portsmouth, they have secured their safety and can play with freedom. John Mousinho has done a great job in charge of Pompey this term.
“They should be full of confidence ahead of this one. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see them go to Hillsborough and get another win.”
