Norwich City near deal to land new boss from Championship rivals
Norwich City are closing in on appointing Bristol City boss Liam Manning as their new head coach, according to Alex Crook.
Norwich City had a disappointing season last year, leaving them in need of another big summer. After falling away from the play-off race, NCFC dismissed head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup with just two games remaining in the campaign.
Thorup had been appointed to lead a new long-term project at Carrow Road, which began last summer. However, despite the club’s long-term ambitions, the next manager will be expected to deliver results quickly.
The Canaries appear to be closing in on replacing Thorup just a few weeks after the season’s end. According to reporter Alex Crook, via X, Norwich City are set to appoint Liam Manning as their new boss.
Crook says that Manning’s move from Bristol City is ‘as good as done’ with NCFC getting in first ahead of several other clubs who had been linked. Leicester City were one such club who were keen on Manning.
A separate report from The Telegraph has revealed that Bristol City will net a compensation fee for Manning. The Robins are set to bag around £800k for their boss to make the switch to Norwich City.
Huge coup for Norwich City
After the season Manning has had with Bristol City, it is no surprise that clubs were so keen. He took the Robins to the play-offs, only to be beaten by Sheffield United.
Securing Manning is a massive coup for Norwich City after what has been a very poor year for them. He is the perfect man to take forward the project going on at Carrow Road while having experience in the Championship too.
Getting Manning’s services this early in the summer could also be big for NCFC. He is going to have plenty of time to get his ideas across to this squad.
Big summer ahead
With Norwich City set for another season in the Championship, they are likely to lose several players. Star men Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz are heavily linked with moves away.
Several loanees are also departing, which will leave several gaps in the side. All of those players need replacing adequately ahead of what looks like a very competitive Championship season next year.
They will be looking for a much better finish next season, but will be under no illusions of the task at hand. NCFC have a massive summer ahead of them, likely with Manning at the wheel.
