Wolves 'plotting' move for Sheffield Wednesday-linked forward

Wolves ‘plotting’ move for Leicester City legend in potential blow for Sheffield Wednesday

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly plotting a move to sign Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy, potentially dashing Sheffield Wednesday hopes.

The 38-year-old is leaving Leicester this summer, bringing an end to a trophy-laden 13-year spell on the club’s books.

He is a boyhood Wednesday fan and a report has suggested he would be open to joining the club who released him as a teenager.

However, it appears he may have an opportunity to remain in the Premier League. According to Football Insider, Wolves are eyeing a free transfer swoop for the England-capped marksman.

The report also suggests Vardy wants a Premier League swansong, which Wednesday cannot offer having fallen away from the Championship promotion picture.

Playing in the top flight would also mean Vardy would not be coming up against Leicester in the league, with the Foxes Championship-bound after a dismal season.

Vardy moved into senior football with non-league outfit Stocksbridge Park Steels after being released by Wednesday as a teenager.

He climbed the non-league pyramid with FC Halifax Town and Fleetwood Town, eventually making a £1m move to Leicester in 2012.

The charismatic frontman has since amassed 497 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 198 goals.

In his recent farewell video, Vardy said: “This isn’t retirement. I want to keep on playing and doing what I enjoy most – scoring goals. I may be 38 but I still have the desire and ambition to achieve so much more.”

Spurs, Aston Villa named among five Premier League admirers of Sheffield Wednesday star

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles has been tracked by Spurs, Aston Villa, Everton, Fulham and Brentford this season, as per Graeme Bailey.

Sheffield Wednesday are heading for an uncertain summer amid questions over the future of manager Danny Rohl. SWFC takeover speculation has been rife too, so it remains to be seen just what the coming months have in store.

New signings are a must at Hillsborough but plans can only really be put into action once the managerial situation is clarified.

However, there are players who could move on from the Owls too. Among those to have drawn admiring glances this season is teenage goalkeeper Pierce Charles, with Premier League clubs regularly keeping tabs on the 19-year-old ahead of a potential move.

Now, five top-flight admirers of the Sheffield Wednesday starlet have been named.

Reporting for EFL Analysis, Graeme Bailey has said that Spurs, Aston Villa, Everton, Fulham and Brentford have all had eyes on Charles over the course of this season.

Manchester City, where Charles started his youth career before joining SWFC, also monitor his developments, though it seems they are not among those showing interest in his services ahead of the summer transfer window.

The next Sheffield Wednesday number one

Having served as the backup to loan man James Beadle this season, Sheffield Wednesday prospect Charles has been given the chance to prove he deserves the starting berth over the tail end of the campaign.
