Sky Sports: Tottenham Make ‘Genius’ Manager Top Target to Replace Postecoglou
Fulham manager Marco Silva is at the top of Tottenham Hotspur’s list of potential replacements for Ange Postecoglou, according to Gianluca di Marzio.
Domestically, Spurs have endured a shocking season. Injuries have ravaged the squad throughout much of the campaign but given their stature as a club, it is hard to believe that Spurs, at the time of writing, are 16th in the Premier League with 19 losses to their name. Were it not for the bottom three, the Lilywhites would be embroiled in a relegation battle.
This, combined with exits from both domestic cup competitions, has seen pressure rise on Ange Postecoglou as the season has gone on. The Australian, however, has guided Spurs to the final of the Europa League, giving Spurs a chance to end their 17-year trophy drought and win their first piece of European silverware in over four decades.
Spurs have an eye on the summer already. Should they stick with Postecoglou, then it is clear he will need reinforcements. This would also be true should Spurs decide to appoint a new manager, however. Andoni Iraola was previously number one on their list of targets, but it would seem as though the club have a new particular name in mind.
Spurs Want Silva
Manager has done brilliantly with Fulham
As per di Marzio, who works for Sky Sports, Marco Silva is “very popular with the Spurs management.” The Portuguese has been at Fulham since 2021 and in his first season, won the Championship to guide the Cottagers back to the Premier League. Despite past failed stints in the top flight, with Everton particularly, Silva has been incredible since his return to the first tier of English football.

Competition | Games | Wins | Draws | Losses |
Premier League | 35 | 14 | 9 | 12 |
FA Cup | 4 | 3 | 0 | 1 |
League Cup | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
From 2022 onwards, Silva has established Fulham comfortably in the Premier League, the London side having finished mid-table in the two completed seasons under Silva thus far. Silva has been called a “genius” for his work at Craven Cottage and at the time of writing, Silva has the chance to secure what would be a record points tally for Fulham as they hunt for European qualification.
Silva also has interest from Saudi Arabia but di Marzio has reported that the manager would prefer to stay in England, which will benefit Spurs greatly. In Silva, Spurs would be appointing a manager that is both young and experienced but most crucially, has shown that he can cope with the Premier League.

Fulham accelerate interest in Tottenham-linked Premier League star
Tottenham might miss out on Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters to London rivals Fulham

Tottenham Hotspur will have a lot of work to do during the off-season. They are heading towards their worst-ever campaign in the Premier League, having failed to show any signs of recovery after a poor start.
The Lilywhites have fallen well short of expectations this term, especially in defence. An injury crisis hit them hard, resulting in their key defenders, along with No.1 Guglielmo Vicario, spending significant chunks on the sidelines. Pedro Porro has been the only pure defender who has been managed to stay fit throughout the campaign.
Addressing the defensive conundrum has to be the club chiefs’ top priority heading into the summer transfer window. A lack of squad depth has severely hampered their ability to compete for a top-four finish, with injuries further compounding the issue. The Hotspur Way bosses are working hard behind the scenes, identifying players who can not only raise the bar at the back but also provide much-needed cover.
Tottenham have been interested in re-signing Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton. The full-back left North London in 2020 to join Southampton and played an instrumental part in getting them back into the Premier League last year.
However, with the Saints getting relegated at the first time of asking and his contract at the club expiring at the end of June, the Englishman is on course to leave the St Mary’s Stadium on a free transfer. As a result, he will likely be one of the most sought-after players in the coming summer.
According to a report from Football Insider, Fulham are planning to make Kyle Walker-Peters one of their summer’s defensive priorities and move ahead of Tottenham and West Ham in the race to sign him.

This development comes in the wake of Timothy Castagne undergoing surgery on an ankle issue, putting him on the sidelines for months now. And with Kenny Tete struggling to hit form since returning from a long-term injury, Fulham boss Marco Silva has set his sights on signing Walker-Peters on a potential free transfer from Southampton.
The Cottagers trying to muscle their way in the transfer race to sign Walker-Peters is worrying for Tottenham. The English full-back wants to start fresh after suffering relegation with the Saints, and his top-flight experience, versatility and homegrown status make him an enticing commodity to bring in for Spurs.
