Danny Rohl must be worried as door now surely closed for Sheffield Wednesday exit to three teams

Danny Rohl has been less than subtle regarding his desire to leave Sheffield Wednesday, but his chances of joining three teams now look slim to none.

Rohl dropped a big hint about leaving last month, saying the club’s owner already knew his decision.

Meanwhile, as quoted by the Star, the German hinted he’d like to manage in the Premier League and Bundesliga, saying: “I always want to work with the best players and compete with the best coaches. The Bundesliga is, of course, a top choice. After all, I grew up with the Bundesliga. But the Premier League is also a dream. I’m currently very excited to see what happens this summer.”

It’s fair to say that  Rohl is in a ‘messy’ situation at Sheffield Wednesday, especially now it looks like three potential options for him are no longer on the table.

Three Danny Rohl options now look off the table

Amid all of the noise around his future, the former Bayern Munich man has been linked with a number of clubs.

Rohl was on Southampton’s shortlist for a new manager earlier this year. However, Will Still is expected to be announced as Saints boss in the very near future, closing the door on that job.

Elsewhere, it emerged earlier this month that Crystal Palace were looking at the Owls manager if they decided to part ways with their current coach.

However, it seems unlikely that the Eagles would now be willing to let Oliver Glasner go right after he has guided them to the FA Cup.

Another Premier League side who had considered Rohl as an option was Fulham.

Now, though, in the May 19th print edition of the Daily Mail on Verdict page 11, it has been reported that former West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is top of their list should Marco Silva decide to leave.

There is still a long way to go before the new season kicks off, and more managerial changes are expected.

But Rohl is now surely worried that after making his desire to leave Wednesday so public, he may not end up getting a job he actually wants.

Rohl has angered Sheffield Wednesday fans with continued hints over an exit, and it’ll be interesting to see if he would actually be welcomed back by supporters when they return to Hillsborough later this year.

He has done a great job in Yorkshire, but the bridges may already be burned, and in reality, it does look as though he will now have to leave, even if the jobs he has been eyed for aren’t on the table anymore.

Sheffield Wednesday face an uncertain summer in more ways than one. There’s a possibility the Owls could go into next season with new owners and a new manager.

Danny Rohl has created a ‘messy’ situation at Hillsborough after very publicly talking about his desire for a new challenge.

However, the German coach is under contract, and while Rohl may be keen to return to his homeland, Wednesday are not about to relieve him of his duties.

Still, whether he leaves or not, and whether he burns those bridges with the Owls fans, there’s no denying Rohl is a quality manager. And now, Josh Windass has explained why.

What Josh Windass said about Danny Rohl

Speaking on the Open Goal podcast, Windass hailed the Sheffield Wednesday manager as the best coach he’s had the pleasure of working with, and went into detail about what it’s like behind the scenes in S6.

Windass said: “Top class. Best I’ve worked with, tactically, by a mile… it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen, to be honest.

“He’ll do a match plan, showing us what positions we should be in for mid-third pressing, building up from goal kicks etc.

“And then on the Monday, he’ll get those images up and compare them and if you didn’t follow the match plan he’ll ask you why. I’ve got a lot of freedom to play… but it’s within a structure.”

Windass suggested some of his teammates might not be as keen on the heavily detailed and analytical approach Rohl takes, but he can’t get enough of it.

He added: “Sometimes the meetings go on a bit long and some of the lads might switch off, but I love it; I’m just learning all the time.”
