Colchester United boss Danny Cowley on defensive record
A POPULAR bakery which shut in Colchester’s city centre is set to reopen its doors after finding a new home.
Starting in Hackney, east London, the business was set up almost 16 years ago by head baker Kiersten Geroge as a stall at the capital’s vibrant food markets.
Over the years, the business grew and supplied independent coffee shops across London, as well as having its products stocked at iconic locations like Harrods, Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason.
In 2020, the business moved to Colchester, but in January 2025, Kiersten made the difficult and emotional decision to close the store in Red Lion Yard.
Now, the business has announced the start of a new chapter, only a few miles away from the city centre.
Victoria Yum will reopen at the Wivenhoe Business Centre, in Brook Street, the business has now confirmed.
In a statement, the owner said: “In 2020, we moved to a stunning Grade 1 listed property in Colchester, where we introduced fresh sourdough, buttery pastries, and our famous doughnuts.
“After 4.5 wonderful years, we made the bittersweet decision to close our Colchester store at the end of January 2025—but we’re incredibly excited to now be relocating to Wivenhoe, just a stone’s throw from our home.”
The re-opening is anticipated for mid-March, but a date has yet to be confirmed.
Wivenhoe Town Mayor Denice Burke was delighted to hear about the arrival of the new business.
She said: “It’s always exciting to see another business setting up in Wivenhoe.
“We wish Victoria Yum Bakery every success in its new venture and are delighted the bakery has decided to relocate here.
“Colchester’s loss is Wivenhoe’s gain.”
Victoria Yum continues to sell its goods on its website, including the popular service of Cake by Post.
A special discount for Wivenhoe customers who order the Mother’s Day afternoon tea box for collection or local delivery on March 31 will be available until March 2.
