‘Knowing Lamps’ – Robbie Keane’s Coventry City transfer message
Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as former Sky Blues star Robbie Keane calls on the club to back Frank Lampard this summer
Robbie Keane has urged Coventry City owner Doug King to give Frank Lampard the backing to give him the “right credentials” to go one better next season and get the club promoted back to the Premier League.
The former Sky Blues star, who enjoyed one stellar season at Highfield Road back in 1999/2000, clearly still has a soft spot for the club, while also knowing Lampard well.
The 44-year-old – who joined City for a British record fee of £6m for a teenager at the time from Wolves before being sold for £13m 12 months later – took a close watching brief of the club’s play-off semi-final exploits against Sunderland this month.
“I was gutted for Coventry after their play-off defeat,” said Keane.
I obviously know Frank Lampard very well and he did a tremendous job, considering where they were when he took over. To get them to the playoffs is great achievement and there are positive signs for next season.”
Speaking to betway insider blog, Keane added: “I watched the (Sunderland) game and was hugely disappointed when they conceded in the last second, but they should be proud.
“Knowing Lamps the way I do, with the winner that he is, he’ll be itching to get going again next season. Hopefully they’ll also back him and give him the right credentials to try and go up next year.”
