Liverpool’s chase for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak could intensify in the coming days, as Brentford’s pursuit of Dango Ouattara is set to spark a domino effect in the Premier League.

The Reds are on the hunt for attacking reinforcements following the exits of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, and the heartbreaking loss of forward Diogo Jota last month, with the Magpies’ No.14 being their primary target.

However, the reigning Premier League champions’ initial bid for Isak, a cool £110m, was firmly turned down by the St James’ Park side earlier this month. Newcastle had initially stated that Isak would not be sold this summer, with the Swedish international having three years remaining on his current contract.

But after Isak ruled himself out of the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East due to a muscle injury, reports from the North East have suggested that the forward could be allowed to leave if Newcastle can secure a couple of replacements.

So far this summer, Eddie Howe’s team have been unsuccessful in their attempts to sign a new forward, with Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko all rejecting moves to St James’ Park.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak has been the transfer story of the summer

Should Ouattara manage to secure his move to the G-Tech Stadium in the coming days, it would pave the way for Wissa to make his move to the North East, potentially enabling Isak to realise his dream of moving to Anfield before the transfer window shuts on September 1.
