Baltimore Ravens Make Official Coaching Announcement
The Baltimore Ravens, once again, had a shiny regular season. After building a star-studded roster around superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson — the team posted a 12-win 2024 campaign. Once again, the playoffs proved to be too much. The Ravens fell in a Divisional Round contest against the Buffalo Bills, losing 27-25 in a soul-crushing matchup. While Jackson and the Ravens didn’t quite secure the playoff success they might have hoped after landing star running back Derrick Henry in the offseason — they found a building block with the backfield duo. Now, as the Ravens move forward, they will be dealing with some salary cap issues to not only retain their star-level roster but to add more talent to it and prove to be a Super Bowl-contending club. One area in which the Ravens can remain consistent and build some continuity is their coaching staff. They extended the contract of offensive coordinator Todd Monken and head coach John Harbaugh could be next.
The club is also returning a defensive backs coach that Harbaugh initially had on his staff in 2008.
The Ravens recently announced that Chuck Pagano is returning to the team in the same capacity 17 years later. He spent some time as Baltimore’s defensive coordinator after joining the team as a defensive backs coach. “We’re excited to welcome back Chuck Pagano as our Sr. Secondary Coach!” the Ravens shared on X.
After spending time as the Ravens’ defensive coordinator, Pagano joined the Indianapolis Colts as a head coach before eventually joining the Chicago Bears as a defensive coordinator. Pagano has a wealth of football experience and will help the Ravens’ secondary, which improved over the course of last season after a shaky start in stopping the opposing teams’ passing attacks.
Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills suffered a crushing loss in the AFC Championship Game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, and per usual, the officiating in this game was a big topic of discussion. After previously taking a shot at the Bills, Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey shared a bold claim on Monday. There were several controversial calls made in this game, with the majority of them benefitting KC. Perhaps the most impactful call came when Allen was ruled short of the line to gain on a pivotal 4th-&-1 play early in the fourth quarter. Buffalo went from having the ball with a one-point lead to trailing by seven points shortly afterwards. Replays appeared to show the ball crossing the first-down marker, but the referees held up their initial call that ruled Allen short after a lengthy review. While Humphrey initially poked fun at Buffalo for losing after they beat Baltimore in the divisional round, he voiced his displeasure with Allen getting ruled short on this big play. “They lowkey did rob the Bills from the 4th down conversion. Josh definitely crossed the line,” Humphrey said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
