Frustrating development emerges over Danny Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday future
Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl will ‘take time’ over a decision over his next move amid links with numerous clubs, as per the Daily Mail.
Sheffield Wednesday are surrounded by a lot of noise at the moment, especially regarding manager Danny Rohl. SWFC takeover speculation has circulated, but player futures have been ironed out somewhat by the recent retained list announcement.
The big story surrounds manager Rohl though, who has been linked with a whole host of clubs ahead of a likely Hillsborough exit.
The constant rumours are doing the lack of clarity no help, but unfortunately, it seems matters might not be decided any time soon.
The Daily Mail reports that Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl is set to ‘take time’ with the decision over his next career move. It seems to be expected that he will move, but his destination remains undecided with several options seemingly open.
Reports have persistently linked former employers Southampton and he is said to be in the final reckoning alongside Will Still. RB Leipzig are named as admirers, as are VfL Wolfsburg.
Rohl said SWFC had been informed of his intentions before the season’s end but with regard to his destination, that looks set to remain up in the air.
It feels as though many at Sheffield Wednesday have come to terms with the fact that Rohl will be moving on from the club this summer.
However, the lack of clarity over the matter will only hinder them further. Losing him is one thing, but seeing their efforts to replace him and plans for their own summer hindered will not do anyone any good.

The sooner Rohl makes a decision, the better. If he’s going to leave, SWFC would surely rather he does so in the not-too-distant future so they can get on with life after his lead and prepare for the 2025/26 campaign suitably.
Rohl at risk of tainting Hillsborough relationship
Rohl has been adored by Sheffield Wednesday fans since his arrival. He guided them to safety in the 2023/24 campaign when they looked to be heading in one direction, and they have made notable progress on the pitch since then.
However, the lack of clarity over his future, coy comments about moves elsewhere and entertaining questions over other vacancies has not done his relationship with fans much good. The vast majority still side with him, but that will be at risk.
If Rohl delays his decision over his next destination, it will just damage Wednesday’s preparations for the new campaign further. It would be a great shame if he was to undo the hard work he has put in over the past 18 months or so.
