Former Broncos Wide Receiver Signs With Jets

After a challenging 2024 season, former Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds has found a new home. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, “The (New York) Jets are signing FA WR Josh Reynolds today, sources say, and he gets a 1-year deal worth up to $5M.”

Reynolds is entering his 11th season in the NFL and will bring valuable experience to the Jets’ wide receiver room. He was drafted in the fourth round (117th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.

He played four seasons with the Rams before leaving for the Tennessee Titans. However, his time in Tennessee was short-lived; he lasted only five games before being released. He was then claimed by the Detroit Lions, where he spent the next three seasons. Last off-season, Reynolds signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the Broncos. He only appeared in four games with the team, totaling 12 receptions, 183 receiving yards, and one touchdown. He was placed on Injured Reserve in Week 5, was involved in a scary off-field incident in October, and was eventually waived in early December. Reynolds concluded the season with the Jacksonville Jaguars but struggled to make an impact, totaling just one reception for 11 yards in four games. As Rapoport noted, Reynolds and Jets general manager Darren Mougey worked together in Denver last season. Even though Reynolds only played four games in Denver, the former Broncos assistant general manager saw enough potential in the wide receiver to sign him again.

The Denver Broncos have been trying to add to their offense in the offseason. Head coach Sean Payton emphasized finding a “joker” at tight end, and after signing Evan Engram for that role, the Broncos were reportedly involved in some of the top free-agent wide receivers.

According to Adam Schefter on ESPN NFL Live, the Broncos were one the teams that “checked in” on star free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Schefter reported that after Diggs visited the New England Patriots, the Broncos called to check in on him.

Diggs signed a huge three-year deal worth up to $69 million with the Patriots. The Broncos were looking to add a wide receiver, and after Diggs signed with the Patriots, one of the best remaining free agents went off the board.

Courtland Sutton is under contract but will need an extension soon. Marvin Mims is a good complimentary receiver, and Troy Franklin is looking to have a strong second season. Devaughn Vele is another solid receiver, and Trent Sherfield is good depth.
