Aaron Ramsdale drops ice-cold claim after helping perfect Southampton fight-back
Aaron Ramsdale claims that despite a hard-fought job to cross the nightmarish 11-point record, the Saints didn’t lose sleep over this.
In a season that brought only nightmares for Southampton, the Saints can finally heave a sigh of relief. That’s because, even though they are relegated, now they aren’t going with their heads down in shame.
Phew! Southampton have finally crossed Derby’s lowest ever 11-point Top Flight record total.
Well, and what a way to mark their 12th point. Defying all mocking predictions and their squad vulnerability issues, Southampton made Man City succumb to a frustrating draw at home.
Thanks to a complete low-block effort from the entire lineup after Captain Bednarek’s rally cry, Southampton achieved the near impossible at St. Mary’s. But it wouldn’t have been so if not for keeper Aaron Ramsdale’s heroics in the Saints’ goal once again.
Yet, surprisingly, Ramsdale’s performance wasn’t his best memory for fans yesterday, as his post-game claim has taken the spotlight ever since.
Ramsdale silences Southampton’s critics with ice-cold comment
Recently, after a calm and composed performance against Man City, Ramsdale remained as cool as he was in the game while delivering his post-match thoughts.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Ramsdale said: “It’s a really great day for us in a tough season. I don’t think we’ve been losing sleep (about the points total).”
Just imagine being restricted to single-digit points for most of the season, and then speaking with such confidence after a brilliant comeback, definitely, it couldn’t have been any other Saint than Aaron Ramsdale.
This is because such bold comments have become a norm for the ex-Arsenal keeper. What just changed compared to the previous cases is that this time Ramsdale had Southampton’s support to back his words.
Ultimately, the keeper silenced all those critics who doubted Southampton as the worst team ever, giving all the Saints fans an unforgettable joy amidst a difficult season.
But, the agony continues, was it the last one from Aaron Ramsdale, who is to leave this summer?
Southampton Make ‘One of Football’s Brightest Young Coaches’ Top Manager Target
Southampton are keeping a close eye on Danny Rohl as their potential new manager, according to TEAMtalk.
Simply put, it has been a miserable season for Southampton. Russell Martin guided them to promotion in his first campaign at the club, but his commitment to his possession-based philosophy of playing was ultimately what cost him his job. Martin was sacked in December and in his place, Southampton appointed former Torino boss Ivan Juric.
The Saints were in a tough position upon Juric’s arrival, but the Croatian was unable to improve their form at all. Southampton became the first team in Premier League history to be relegated with as many as seven games remaining in the season and soon after this was confirmed, Juric departed.
At the time of writing, the Saints are being managed on an interim basis by Simon Rusk. Southampton already have an eye on the transfer window and unsurprisingly, the club are weighing up candidates for who could be their next permanent manager ahead of their return to the Championship.
Southampton Want Rohl
Manager’s future is uncertain
Southampton are, according to TEAMtalk, hoping to appoint Rohl as their new manager for the 2025/26 campaign. The German has taken charge of almost 100 games in the Championship since arriving at Sheffield Wednesday in 2023. In his first season, the German defied the odds by guiding the Owls to survival in the Championship on the term’s final day.

Rohl improved Wednesday even further in his second season, steering them to a 12th-placed finish with nine points between themselves and the bottom three. Despite this, Rohl’s future is very much in doubt, with it being rumoured that the German has a strained relationship with Wednesday’s owner, Dejphon Chansiri.
Southampton have long held an interest in Rohl, with the club trying to appoint him as Martin’s successor before settling on Juric. An adaptable tactician, it can be easy to forget that Rohl is just 36 years old, given the ability he has shown as a manager. TEAMtalk described the German as “one of football’s brightest young coaches.”
Before becoming a senior manager, Rohl worked as part of the coaching staff at Southampton as an assistant to ex-boss Ralph Hassenhuttl. Perhaps Rohl’s past experience, along with the prospect of guiding a team to the Premier League, could see Southampton secure his services.
