Recent Wayne Rooney update further undermines Derby County managerial spell, ‘really close’ friend was the brains
Wayne Rooney has been lined up with yet another managerial role, with a non-league side looking to appoint the former Derby County boss.
Wayne Rooney’s first managerial role at Derby County threw him into the deep end as he had to lead a side amid financial uncertainties and points deductions.
During his time at Pride Park, it is generally considered that Rooney did a top-notch job in the circumstances, which gave him the legs to further develop his managerial career.
Following on from Derby, Rooney underwent failed spells at DC United in the MLS, Birmingham City, and most recently, Plymouth Argyle.
Rooney is still keen to continue his managerial career, but the latest update shows that his stock has plummeted, and that his successful role at Derby may have been down to someone else.

Wayne Rooney’s link to Macclesfield shows that an alternative man was the brains behind the previous Derby County success
Per a report by Alan Nixon on Patreon, National League North side Macclesfield Town are keen to bring in Wayne Rooney as Robbie Savage’s replacement, with the latter set to move on to Forest Green Rovers.
It is clear that many sides would now be unwilling to put faith in Rooney, who, if he accepts the role at Macclesfield, would drop from the Championship to the sixth tier in less than a year.
Rooney’s only success so far has been at Derby County, which begs the question…how did that role work out for him?
The Man United legend’s right-hand man at Derby was in fact Liam Rosenior, the former Hull City and current Strasbourg boss who has gained a brilliant reputation over recent years. The pair managed quite a bond, to the point of Rooney regarding him as a ‘really close’ friend from their time at Pride Park.

Differences in Wayne Rooney and Liam Rosenior’s careers are eye-opening
Rosenior has found himself harshly sacked at two jobs, being let go by both Derby County and Hull City in rather harsh and controversial circumstances.
Unlike Rooney, when Rosenior has left roles, he has found himself taking a job of higher stature – a huge contrast to the former England goalscorer.
It would be unfair to suggest that Rooney’s impact at Derby was insignificant, but based on the careers of himself compared to his previous assistant, it would make sense if Rosenior has much more of an impact than was initially thought.

At the very start of the week, Patrick Agyemang was not a name that Derby County supporters were familiar with.
However, by the time the early hours of Wednesday morning rolled about, Rams fans started to get very excited as Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Championship side are closing in on a deal for the striker.
