One last time, Patrick Peterson is coming home. On Monday, the veteran cornerback announced that he will officially retire as a Cardinal. It is a fitting end to a 13-year journey, as it takes him back to the team that drafted him fifth overall 13 years ago:
Peterson, now 34, announced on Instagram earlier this week, writing, “It was nothing like taking flight with the bird gang on Sundays. See you next week @azcardinals.” The Cardinals quickly confirmed, revealing he will hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
Peterson’s career began with a bang in Arizona, where he quickly earned a reputation as one of the NFL’s most dependable and dynamic defensive backs. He made eight consecutive Pro Bowl appearances from 2011 through 2018 and became a cornerstone of the Cardinals’ defense for a decade.
After ten seasons in Arizona, Peterson joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2021 and later signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played all 17 games for the Steelers during the 2023 season before the organization released him in March 2024. He did not sign with another team after that.
Across 201 regular-season games, Peterson tallied 36 interceptions and returned two for touchdowns. While a Super Bowl ring eluded him, his consistency and durability made him one of the most respected cornerbacks of his era. Many within league circles view him as a strong Hall of Fame candidate.

Kenny Pickett returns to Pittsburgh
Kenny Pickett was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft, the first quarterback selected in his class. It was a feel-good story, as it meant that Pickett would be playing his pro ball in the same stadium he played in collegiately as a Pittsburgh Panther.
Ultimately, things didn’t quite work out for Pickett with the Steelers, and he was dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles. After being on the roster for the Eagles Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Birds traded Pickett to the Cleveland Browns this offseason, where he is expected to compete for a starting job.
However, it would appear that Pittsburgh still holds a special place in Pickett’s heart, as he was recently spotted at Acrisure Stadium, where both the Steelers and Panthers play their home games.
“Figures he walked back staring at the ground like the LOSER he is,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“He probably already overthrew somebody,” one fan added.
“Hopefully they booed him 100% of the time just like when the Browns play at Pittsburgh this year,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Pickett can secure a starting job next season.
