Former Alabama QB Paul Tyson is the great grandson of Bear Bryant. Last season, he was player-coach at Clemson, as he suited up for some games throughout the season. He will be back at Clemson this season as a member of the coaching staff.
He was a student coach on last season’s team, but he also dressed up at times as the emergency quarterback. He transferred to Clemson in December of 2022, after previous stops at Arizona State and Alabama.
n 2023, he completed 3-of-4 passes for 42 yards and 1 touchdown in 2 appearances for the Tigers. In 2021 during his time at Alabama, he completed 10-of-16 passes for 150 yards.
The Tigers had an impressive 2024 season, and could be in store for an even better in 2025. Very few teams will be as confident in their quarterback position as Clemson will be with returner Cade Klubnik. After a slow start to his college career, Klubnik burst onto the scene by passing for 3,639 yards, 36 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. He also showed he can be dynamic running the ball with another 463 yards and another 7 touchdowns.
Last season, Tyson at times would suit up as Klubnik’s back-up, but moving forward, he only has the title of coach now.
