  • Has overseen meteoric rise up the EFL
  • Challenge now is to reach the top-flight

WHAT HAPPENED?

Promotion specialist Parkinson was targeted by Hollywood co-owners in North Wales a matter of months after they completed their stunning takeover at SToK Racecourse in 2021. He was talked into joining an ambitious project in front of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary cameras.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Parkinson has proved to be a shrewd appointment, with the history books being rewritten over the course of his 221-game tenure. Wrexham are heading into the Championship after taking back-to-back-to-back steps up the EFL ladder.

DID YOU KNOW?

The odd question has been asked of Parkinson’s methods, but there is no arguing with his record. He is already the subject of ‘The Boss’ mural in Wrexham and has seen a permanent monument to his success speculated on.

WHAT EFL PUNDIT SAID

Former EFL player turned pundit Don Goodman believes it is too early to talk statues at the Racecourse, telling FruityKing of why Premier League football may be required in order to earn that kind of immortality: “I don’t think he’d expect one just yet. I don’t want to disrespect Phil because what he’s achieved is nothing short of phenomenal.

Mark Robins hasn’t got one outside Coventry yet. So, with respect, I think you probably need to achieve just a little bit more for a statue.”

WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

Reynolds and McElhenney have never shied away from the fact that they want to deliver top-flight action to Wrexham. Another busy summer of transfer activity is expected on the back of a third all-expenses-paid promotion party in Las Vegas.

Wrexham can wave goodbye to one transfer target as Championship move ruled out, Celtic move suggested instead

Wrexham have big plans for the summer transfer window. As ever, though, their plans and what actually comes to fruition could prove very different.

Phil Parkinson is eyeing up a big overhaul this summer with his Wrexham side needing to really stock up ahead of what will prove to be a very difficult Championship campaign.

Parkinson wants to sign experienced Championship players this summer in a bid to give his side the know-how next season, whilst ruling out any superstar signings at the Racecourse too.

There are several players linked with Wrexham right now, including some top names like Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney who has reportedly been offered a £50,000-a-week contract to join Wrexham this summer.

Whether that comes to life remains to be seen. As does a potential deal for Jamie Vardy. The veteran striker is set to become a free agent this summer and Wrexham have been strongly linked with a move for Vardy in the build up to the summer transfer window.

Chris Sutton says Wrexham transfer target Jamie Vardy is a good fit for Celtic

There’s a lot of talk about where Vardy might end up next. It’s been suggested that Vardy has interest from the MLS this summer, along with the likes of Wrexham, whilst newly-promoted Premier League club Leeds United are also rumoured to be interested in signing the 38-year-old as a free agent.

Speaking on It’s All Kicking Off though, pundit Chris Sutton has suggested that Celtic could be a good fit for Vardy. Journalist Ian Ladyman started by confirming that Vardy’s camp doesn’t want to play for a Championship side next season, saying: “The brief from Vardy’s camp is that he doesn’t want to play in the Championship. So, you know, your options are pretty narrow there then, aren’t they?

“If you don’t want all of those things, if you don’t want Saudi, you don’t want the Championship, America might not be an option. You’ve got to ask yourself what your options are there.”
