Fresh Coventry City and Daniel Pereira update after £3.2m transfer claim
The latest Coventry City transfer news as CoventryLive brings you fresh updates from an MLS insider regarding linked midfielder
Coventry City are not closing in on signing Daniel Pereira from Austin FC, despite reports last week to the contrary.
Last week it was claimed the Sky Blues are ‘close’ to securing a transfer for the Venezuelan midfielder, with reports of a £3.2million deal between the Championship and MLS club.
That claim was quickly played down by MLS insider Tom Bogert who described it as ‘not true’. Bogert has now posted on X: ‘There has been NO communication between Austin FC and Coventry City about a potential deal for Dani Pereira still.’
The 25-year-old has come through the US college system and signed for Austin in 2021, since when he has made 142 appearances, with 18 coming this season.
His current contract is due to expire in December but the MLS club are understood to have an option to extend it further. He has six caps for his country.
Whether central midfield is even an area the Sky Blues are looking to strengthen is in doubt, with Matt Grimes and Ben Sheaf key figures in Frank Lampard’s team. They also have Jamie Allen, Josh Eccles, Victor Torp and youngster Kai Andrews at their disposal.
However, City are believed to be closing in on a deal for Carl Rushworth, the Brighton goalkeeper, who is reportedly set for a medical ahead of a season-long loan from the Premier League outfit.
