Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley fans prepare for 'once-in-a-lifetime' derby

Sheffield Wednesday fans will love Adam Shaw’s latest update on ‘constructive’ progress with Dejphon Chansiri

Sheffield Wednesday fans are desperate for Dejphon Chansiri to step aside and allow Adam Shaw to take over the club, and they may be a lot closer to that wish now.

It has not been a good summer for Sheffield Wednesday at all so far. Not only is Danny Rohl eager to leave the club, but players are still unpaid for May, which has left the club subject to a three-window transfer ban.

Dejphon Chansiri has been awfully silent throughout the whole situation, which has only served to anger fans even more.

It’s safe to say the fans want Chansiri to sell up and leave the club alone now. The problem is, it’s thought the Owls chairman has an ‘astronomical’ asking price and refuses to budge.

Adam Shaw wants to buy the club and change things for the better, but has reportedly had $75m offers knocked back already.

Adam Shaw’s consortium may finally be getting closer to Sheffield Wednesday takeover

While most fans despair at the situation, and former managers predict a bleak future for Sheffield Wednesday, Adam Shaw has not given up hope.

Former Wednesday owner Milan Mandaric is trying to help the situation, and it sounds like his latest intervention may have sparked something of a breakthrough after his interview with BBC Sheffield.

Now, Shaw has delivered an update ahead of a potential interview with the Wednesday ‘Til I Die podcast and it would appear some progress has been made.

Shaw said: “We are still intending to conduct the interview as to provide the fans with full transparency, answer any questions which is part of the consortium’s strategic obligation, responsibility and most of all the respect the fans deserve – a culture that serves as major priority within the consortium.

“Very recently the landscape surrounding Sheffield Wednesday has changed somewhat in the last week which I’m sure as fans you can appreciate.

“We can also confirm that, as the Florida-based US consortium, we are now in constructive open dialogue with the professional London-based law firm that represents the Chansiri family.

“We hope we’ve now struck the right balance — providing the fans with the transparency you’ve been asking for, while also allowing negotiations to proceed in a discreet and professional manner.”

Shaw has made no secret of his intentions and has been very forthcoming about the negotiation process. Now, it sounds like that approach may change ever so slightly, to allow Chansiri the privacy required to reach an agreement away from the spotlight.

The grass must surely be greener on the other side for Sheffield Wednesday

It says a lot about Shaw that he is persevering with this potential deal. In return, he could end up with a dream opportunity with Sheffield Wednesday; the club is a true sleeping giant destined for the top, as long as the correct investment and infrastructure is in place.

A takeover from the Middle East has been mooted plenty of times, but it does appear that if anyone is going to get this across the line now, it’ll be Shaw and his Florida-based consortium.

Not so long ago, fans were unsure if Adam Shaw would be right for the club, with questions raised over his financial muscle and business acumen.

But, with talk of administration for Sheffield Wednesday, things surely can’t get any worse for the Owls if they were to get new owners.

Hopefully, for the sake of everyone involved, there is genuine progress soon so that the club and the fans can move on from this debacle and try to prepare for the coming campaign. More importantly, someone must protect the long-term future of a club with such a rich history in the game.
