Midfielder Wouter Burger has left Stoke City to join German top-flight side TSG Hoffenheim for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old made more than 80 appearances for the Potters and scored five goals across two seasons at the bet365 Stadium.
Stoke’s sporting director Jon Walters said: “We turned down an offer for Wouter on deadline day in January, which he was keen to pursue, as it wasn’t right for the club to let the transfer happen at that time.”
But, he said, after further conversations with Wouter and his agent this summer, Stoke have “decided not to stand in his way”.
He explained Wouter had “expressed a desire to play in the Bundesliga” and added Hoffenheim’s offer “represents a substantial profit” for the Championship side.
Stoke City set to complete bargain deal for relegated 25-year-old
SCFC – Stoke City have more business to do this summer window, and it seems Robert Bozenik could be one of the next through the door.
Stoke City are set to sign Robert Bozenik from Portuguese side Boavista, according to reporter Sebastiao Sousa-Pinto.
Stoke City are looking to enjoy a vastly improved 2025/26 campaign after another year of decline last time around. SCFC have been on a steady decline ever since their drop from the Premier League.
In fact, the Potters have not finished above 14th once in the seven seasons since they dropped to the Championship. Mark Robins is out to change that, but he faces an uphill battle to do so.
New signings will help the former Coventry City boss in his bid to lead a brighter chapter at the Bet365 Stadium, and it seems a fresh striker signing is set to help his efforts to improve fortunes.
Writing on X, Portuguese reporter Sebastiao Sousa-Pinto has said that Stoke City are set to sign striker Robert Bozenik on a three-year contract.
The 25-year-old is under contract with Boavista for another year but following their financial issues and relegation from Liga Portugal, he will join SCFC on a free transfer. With a contract seemingly in place, it might not be long before Bozenik’s move becomes official.
He managed five goals and two assists in 34 games for Boavista last season as they finished bottom of the table.
