‘West Ham learn demands for Genoa star Morten Frendrup’ as interest very real

West Ham have faced a relatively underwhelming transfer window so far as they prepare for the new Premier League season.

Daniel Cummings has arrived on a free transfer from Celtic, although the striker is considered one for the future.

Elsewhere, Jean-Clair Todibo signed for West Ham on a permanent deal, having spent last season on loan at the London Stadium.

Now, there has been an update on long-term target Morten Frendrup, who plays for Serie A side Genoa.

Genoa have high demands for Frendrup as competition heats up

West Ham’s interest in Frendrup dates back to last summer when the Irons tabled a bid north of £21million, which was rejected by Genoa.

The Danish international went on to enjoy a promising season with the Serie A outfit, making 35 league appearances.

Frendrup is an energetic central midfielder who can also operate as a defensive pivot when necessary.

The Dane has three years remaining on his Genoa contract, which was last extended in the summer of 2024.

Numerous clubs are keen on Frendrup, with Real Betis’ interest very real, according to Estadio Deportivo (5 July).

However, the high demands of Genoa complicate a move for the Spanish side, which could boost the Hammers.

It has been reported that Frendrup is flattered by interest from the Premier League, although his focus is on his current employer.

Frendrup to push players out of West Ham?

While West Ham could approach the Danish international, it could mean the end for some players.

As it stands, Potter has the likes of Edson Alvarez, Tomas Soucek, and Guido Rodriguez in the hub of his midfield.

Another player who could leave is James Ward-Prowse, although he featured heavily under Potter after returning from his loan at Nottingham Forest.

The signing of Frendrup would certainly add healthy competition in midfield, and he seems to be a worthy profile who can take the Irons in a different direction.

Potter will want to strengthen in various areas of his squad if they are to improve on last season’s dismal showing, and given the high demands, the Irons could step in to beat Betis to this signing.

Crysencio Summerville has not hit the heights that were expected of him at West Ham.

The Hammers signed the Dutch winger from Leeds United last summer, but he notched just one goal and one assist in 19 Premier League matches after a serious injury.
