SAINTS have confirmed a deal to sign Joshua Quarshie from TSG Hoffenheim ahead of the transfer window opening on Sunday, June 1.

Promising young central defender Quarshie has signed a four-year deal, starting on Tuesday, July 1, at St Mary’s and is the first addition to new manager Will Still’s squad.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall and boasting explosive pace, the 20 year old was statistically the fastest player in 2. Bundesliga this season with a top speed of 37.04 km/h.

“English football is a little bit rough, and I like this kind of playing style. With my height and my body, I think I’m in the right spot.

“Since I was a little kid I was dreaming to play in England, and now it’s becoming reality, so I’m very excited to play here.”

Group technical director Johannes Spors added: “Joshua is a talented young player with good experience for his age, having played more than 80 senior games already in his career, and has tremendous physical qualities.

“His outstanding athleticism makes him a natural fit for the energetic playing style our new manager hopes to implement.

“As a club, we are committed to improving young players, and Joshua is very determined to develop his game with us.”

Drivers are being warned as more than 35,000 cruise passengers will be departing and arriving for their summer voyages.

The Queen Mary 2, Arcadia, and Britannia are among the vessels scheduled to arrive on Friday, May 30.

Royal Carribean Cruises’ Independence of the Seas will be following suit on Saturday with Iona, Ventura, MSC Virtuosa, and Sky Princess all set to join her.

Sunday will see a much quieter day, which should result in less city centre traffic, with the Norwegian Prima and Queen Anne expected to arrive in the morning.

The arrivals will boost the number of tourists in the city meaning that the roads are likely to be busy – with drivers being warned to allow extra journey time.
