Paul Mullin’s time at Wrexham could come to an unfortunate end this summer, after the striker fell painfully out of favour last season.

Paul Mullin is a modern day legend at Wrexham. The 30-year-old’s goals in the National League and League Two fired the Dragons to promotion, and no matter what happens this summer, he’s a hero.

And it is widely expected that Mullin leaves Wrexham this summer. The former Cambridge United man is out of contract next summer and out of favour right now, featuring just 26 times in League One last season, scoring three goals.

Mullin played just once since the end of January. Phil Parkinson said Mullin was simply out of favour at the club following the January arrivals of Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez, though many have speculated as to what might have happened behind the scenes.

Lee Trundle backs Paul Mullin to make Wrexham comeback in 2025/26

Long before Mullin, there was Lee Trundle. Better-known for his time at Swansea City, Trundle was actually a prolific name for Wrexham before leaving the Racecourse for Swansea in 2003 scoring 27 in 94 games for the Dragons.

This summer, Wigan Athletic have been linked with a move for Mullin who is understood to be keen on remaining in the area. But Trundle thinks Mullin can resurrect his Wrexham career and prove his worth in the Championship under Parkinson next season.

Speaking on Fearless in Devotion, Trundle said when asked if Mullin could play an important role in 2025/26: “100%. I believe them type of goals that Mulls scores and the amount that he scores, you just don’t lose that overnight. Obviously he had the injuries at the start which kept him out and then goal-wise, you know.

“I think as well when you’re being used to scoring that many goals each season, soon as you go through that little bad patch, and players will say ‘Oh you just get on with it’. But as a striker, it does affect you and it would affect him because he’s been the talisman for the team. He’s been the one who scored all the goals he scored the important goals and and let’s be fair, he’s been one of one of the main reasons in Wrexham’s success.”

Paul Mullin’s famous last words at Wrexham?

Mullin has had his issues: injuries, lack of form and so on. It would be some comeback if Mullin found his footing and got back to scoring ways in the Championship. But Wrexham have a number of attacking targets right now and it looks like Parkinson will simply sign bigger and better than Mullin this summer.

It makes sense to sell him this summer; from both his and the club’s perspective. And Mullin might have said his last as a Wrexham player. Speaking in a recent episode of Welcome to Wrexham, Mullin spoke about his last goal for Wrexham, and what might prove to be his last goal for the club.
